At last, a report in MSM about the million or so actually attending WYD instead of the hundreds protesting. Still, they managed to turn the story at the end to the protests

Million Brave Searing Temperatures for Pope Vigil
MADRID – An estimated million young pilgrims braved searing temperatures Saturday to take part in a prayer vigil with Pope Benedict XVI, massing at a dusty airport field as the Catholic Church’s youth festival neared its climax.
Firefighters atop fire trucks sprayed the crowds with water from hoses, and pilgrims sought shade from umbrellas, trees and tents in a bid to stave off the near 40-degree Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) heat.
Despite the discomfort, the scene at the Cuatro Vientos airport was nevertheless festive and colorful, with pilgrims in a rainbow of sunhats dancing, singing and waving their national flags as they geared up for a massive sleepover to be in place for Sunday’s main World Youth Day Mass.

Praying for Bohm Bawerk,
a fellow CAF member of ours
who is in attendance at WYD.

And don’t forget the sudden rainstorm that came up during the Gospel reading!

The Holy Father was absolutely unflappable! His faithful masters of ceremonies shielded him with umbrellas as he patiently waited for it to pass! I loved the expression on his face!

The monstrance which was brought from Toledo for Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament was stunning!

And yes, it WAS ‘an adventure’ as he said in his closing remarks! I bet he never thought it would happen that way!

The joy of all those kids was contagious!

I saw a re-broadcast of the opening ceremonies last night on EWTN & it was fabulous:)
