I am moving this from the Traditional Catholic board to this one…I think it will be of more interest here

I always wonder if Catholics can see the apparitions of the Blessed
Virgin Mary ,do others see her too?
The answer is yes ,Jew’s Muslims, and Protestants have seen her

Back it the late 1960 through the early 70’s, there were
sightings almost nightly in Egypt. It made all of the
Newspapers…even in the West…I have some links to share
Mary was seen by about a million people of all faiths…Even
President Nasser of Egypt , a communist saw her…
I have a few links about this to share with you

First …a link from Wikkipedia describing the event

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeitoun_apparitions

Second… newspaper clippings

zeitun-eg.org/engnews.htm

third… are some photos taken of the crowds…look at their
faces

What is the Church’s judgment on these apparitions? Documents please. And thank you.

As far as I know they were judged authentic…If you examine the Zeitoun site I gave the link to it will tell you that…The Vatican has also promounced them as real

I’m a bit suspecious because of these words:

However, the Coptic Patriarch of Alexandria, Pope Kyrollos VI, did not attend the news conference and his signature was not on a mimeographed document circulated to newsmen…Only the words “papal residence” appeared at the foot of this statement. One clergyman said Pope Kyrollos had signed the original document.

It sounds just a bit suspecious to me. Like they’re trying to say the apparitions were judged authentic without giving any proof. But that’s just me.

It was over 30 years ago. I am.not familiar with the Coptic clergy

There are tons of links on the Zeitoun site…I know Rome has approved of them…you would better know how to find the information you seek, than I

Nickname look up approved Marian sightings…google is your friend…I am not going to spend time looking for information you want to know

I shared a link, take or leave it alone, but I refuse to do your investigating…If you want to know more you should do the research

I’ve searched for a Church document on the apparitions and have found none. Furthermore, I have found nothing to suggest that Pope Paul VI was sent a report on the apparitions on April 28, 1968, nor the local Bishop or the Vatican’s approval of the apparitions. Finally, the only site that suggests such a report and approval is the one promoting the apparitions. This all leaves me even more suspecious about the authenticity of the apparitions.

It is the responsibility of the original poster to assure that all apparitions are approved by the Church before promoting them on Catholic Answers.

One good unofficial site to verify approval is apparitions.org/

The apparitions took place at a Coptic church, so wouldn’t it be out of line for the Catholic Church to investigate it? We don’t investigate apparition claims among Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Coptic, etc. communities. Jurisdictional flag on the play.

That’s my understanding anyway, if I’m wrong about that, I’m open to correction.

Having said that, I am of the opinion that something happened at Zeitoun! Hopefully something supernatural and not trickery.

More believable to me than, “I am the immaculate conception” 😛

This is a Coptic Orthodox apparition. It occured around a Coptic Orthodox Church. Why would the pope of Rome even be involved?

If you discuss things with the Oriental Orthodox you will see that they all see these as true. It is not just the website mentioned above.

Why?

Private apparitions are only a subject of human faith (opinion), not The Faith (as a theological virtue and divine gift). That being said, my discernment of the fruits and evidence of Lourdes and the Miraculous Medal–it passes muster and so I believe (but only in the realm of opinion, I don’t stake my faith on it).

The Coptic pope/bishop ruled on Zeitun…he consulted with a Coptic Catholic (???) bishop in the process and he ruled too, but it obviously wasn’t Catholic Catholic, because the apparitions continued until 1971 and the statement was in 1968 near the beginning. The Catholic Church doesn’t issue a declaration about an apparition being supernatural and worthy of belief (as in human faith - opinion) until the apparitions had concluded. So no jurisdictional flag on the play. 👍

I might be wrong but my guess is that the Catholic church became interested because Catholics also witnessed the event as did Protestants and Muslims and Jews

In my opinion the more diverse the people that said it happened ,the better. It means that other faiths saw it happen, and they can testify to the reality of it

I am sorry I posted this. I did it because I felt that it was important for Our Lady, and then I am treated to bashing of what others hold sacred…I am off this thread and this forum
