ContraceptionNope, you overstate the case. If you read those old texts, you quickly note that contraception has NEVER been equated with murder like abortion is in modern times. This is because even the ancients understood that not every act of copulation resulted in a pregnancy and they rightly concluded that the man’s ‘seed’ could not be considered a human being. They lacked the tools to figure out exactly WHEN the ‘seed’ became a human, but readily understood that it was not so immediately upon ejaculation.
This is also why the Church was reluctant until recent scientific discoveries to classify abortion as a murder. It was ALWAYS considered a grave sin, but not until conception was discovered was it found to actually be the killing of a human being.
Thus, the argument that Church teaching on contraception is wrong because it was based on faulty understanding of science collapses: the teaching was NEVER based on the idea that a human was killed by contraception.
