It makes perfect sense. Of course, rather than attribute a “where did that come from?” thought to a supernatural origin, something bubbling up from the subconscious works for me as an explanation.
Fer shure. That’s a reasonable explanation.

Mostly, I was trying to get across why it doesn’t seem to me that, even if it doesn’t ‘originate’ from my own mind, it doesn’t impinge on my free will …
 
Anything that is opposed to God, and the serving of his people is of the Devil.
If you thoughts and actions are self serving to the exclusion of others it is of the Devil. It is up to you to dicerd the difference.

I’m not so sure about that. If that’s true, why does the Catholic Church distinguish between concupiscence and temptation?
