Minister Faces Religious Trial For Performing Gay Marriages
(Rochester, NY) AP 02/17/06 – A Presbyterian minister on the staff of a Rochester church faces a religious trial for performing same-sex wedding services.
The Reverend Dr. Jane Adams Spahr will go on trial before a Presbyterian church judicial commission in California on March 2.
She’s accused of marrying two lesbian couples in violation of Presbyterian Church rules, which say marriage is a covenant between a man and a woman.
Spahr said she married two gay couples in Canada, two lesbian couples in Rochester and another in California.
