So… after hearing about this website from this forum, I emailed the USCCB and asked what I could do to help. The woman who responded was very nice and she asked what diocese I am from. She explained they have nothing on that level but if I tell her my diocese, she would give me a contact in my diocese. So I emailed her back and true to her word, she sent me the information.
I emailed the contact from my diocese, which happened to be the wrong person, but a woman who used to live in my small town and graduated then taught at the local HS. She explained that she dealt with families in crisis but her office mate did marriage and family and she would forward my email to him. So I emailed her back and thanked her and also cc’d the man and welcomed email from him.
So this kind gentleman emailed me back and asked if he could call and talk to me in person… I laughed because I realized he needed to “check me out” and see if I was the real thing or if I was some crackpot with weird ideas and views about marriage. So I sent him my phone # and the best time to get a hold of me. He called that day! It was so funny because I could see what he was looking for and I really loved him for asking the questions he asked!!! We started talking about something I mentioned in an email to the woman about my ds going to that school but I was disenrolling him to homeschool. We talked about that since his wife homeschools their children. We talked about dd’s private school, why I was interested in helping, and what I thought I could do to help. It was so funny because about halfway into our conversation I realized I had attended a thing at my parish that he was speaking at. Then, he changed subject on me and started discussing the Theology of the Body and Catholic view on sex. I got the impression that he was testing to see how comfortable I was talking about it.
Anyway, I guess he thought I was ok because he gave me some excellent ideas for starting a marriage group at my parish. His first suggestion was to talk to the new pastor and get a feel for how receptive he would be to this. He even suggested that I ask about a blurb weekly in the bulletin about the website and fashion a group after the points and principles listed on the site… so I am waiting until after Tuesday to contact the pastor because we have a double funeral (deacon and wife) on Tuesday so hopefully he will be receptive and have some good ideas for me too…
Prayers would be really appreciated everybody…
