It looks to me like they now have standing to sue for violation of civil rights – and perhaps could even bring criminal charges.

I would if i were them. I guarantee you if the signs had said “Bush Lied and People Died” they were never have been stopped in the first place.

I think they owe it to the rest of us to sue – they are in the front line defending the Constitution, and no matter what your political interests are, you don’t want to turn the First Amendment over to petty local bureaucrats.
