In Compline, the gospel canticle antiphon is

Ant. Protect us, Lord, as we stay awake; watch over us as we sleep, that awake, we may keep watch with Christ, and asleep, rest in his peace. (Alleluia.)

Is the alleluia said year round, excluding lent, or is it only said during the easter season?

I use the 4-volume LOTH, and it only shows the (Alleluia) in the Lent/Easter volume. Since it’s not in the others, I always assumed it was for Easter season only.

You omit the Alleluia during Lent. The reason is that Lent is a penitential time. We resume the Alleluia on Easter Sunday.

If you look on page 35 of your Christian Prayer book, you’ll see instructions that indicate that you omit Alleluia during Lent. You can read under the heading of “The Celebration of the Hours” in your LOTH books to see what the instructions for using Alleluia.

The OP is referring only to the Gospel Canticle antiphon for Compline. Alleluia there is used only for the Easter season and is omitted the rest of the year.

For the antiphons, there’s no Alleluia during Lent, and outside of Lent the Alleluia is usually added to Antiphons on Sundays and certain solemnities. But in Eastertide only the Alleluia is added to nearly every antiphon in the Office, and this is what the Compline (Alleluia) at the Nunc Dimittis is for.

No alleluia during Lent, and when the Alleluia is in parentheses, it is for use in the Easter season only. This applies to certain antiphons, but also, the responsory for Easter season also includes alleluia.
