Many of you know that my mom passed away a couple of weeks ago, and that I was desperately trying to find a way to get to her memorial service this week. The service was almost 300 miles away from where I live, and I don’t drive. My best friend would have been happy to take me, but he took on a third job at a local winery during the crush season, and days off during crush are unheard of. I asked everyone I could, and no one could take me. I had pretty much given up hope of being able to go, but I lit a candle to the Blessed Mother Mary this past Sunday and prayed my heart out.
Well, come Wednesday, my best friend is at work and gets told, “oh you can take the rest of the night off, and we don’t need you until Friday.” Thus, he was suddenly free to drive me to the service Thursday morning! He also had to miss a shift at his second job that morning, but he let them know, and they seemed to understand (still praying it doesn’t come back to bite him. ) The drought means that the harvest is much smaller this year, but it is still essentially unheard of to get time off in the middle of crush, and the timing was too perfect to be coincidental!
On the way home yesterday we sang the Gloria. We sometimes sing it in the car because we love and praise God, but we had extra reason to be grateful. As soon as we finished singing, we saw a tiny rainbow appear in the whispy, scant and thin white clouds in the sky in front of us. It was just a little more confirmation that God and the Holy Mother are paying attention and watching over us. It has been a rough few years, with unexpected challenges coming in rapid succession, and this clear and evident set of little miracles has helped us renew our faith a bit. We still need to get through some challenges, but it added a little bit of hope.
I realize that this is a long post, but I wanted to share with all of you the joy and little bit of peace which these little miracles brought to us. God is good!
