I am glad to hear that things are better for you. I am also happy to hear that your husband is willing to go through the motions. It might be God moving him in the right direction. Even if your marriage does not last, it would be good if your husband is healed of this evil hanging over him like some kind of pendulum. It makes me wonder what on earth happened to him to make him the way he is. I guess all we can do is pray for him, and leave it up to God to fix. I will pray for your husband’s healing outside of the forum. The most important thing right now is for you to take care of yourself and your kids.
You may not notice it, but I feel that your note marked a milestone for you. I do think that things are moving in the right direction for you even if you may not be presently aware of it!

Him being willing to “go through the motions” is nothing new. Since the affairs first came to light, he has always been willing to go to counselors, etc. We have been to them together and he has been to some himself, he has been through a year long addiction program, he has gone to confessions, etc. Basically, he is willing to go through whatever, but his heart is not in it, and it never works. So, do not take that comment as the mark of something new! Lol

Actually, his going through the motions is not why I said I thought things were getting better. My thought is that your saying that your having a good day after going through a rough time was the milestone.
Blessings sometimes come in drops, and then the deluge comes as it did for my friend and her children.I will continue praying for you and your children. I do trust in God, and I do believe that He will deliver you and your children as he did my friend and her children.
The thing is that all my friend and I could do was pray about her situation, and we did. The answer came. Not quickly, but it came and she is living happily now with her children.

I know what you’re saying about going through the motions. I feel the same way with my husband too sometimes. I get all hopeful because he is doing some of the things that need to be addressed but it doesn’t seem whole-hearted and seems like more of an appeasement then real effort and desire to change. I will keep praying that your husband has a change of heart and converts these “motions” into actual feelings of wanting to change.
A few things that have been helpful for me are Retrouvaille (Catholic retreat and seminars/sessions for failing marriages) and private counselors. I think his own counselor is almost more important right now than a marriage counselor in many ways since the problem is with him. He can’t begin to fix the marriage until he fixes himself first. He does not love himself and is not happy with himself. He is not at peace and he needs to find his relationship with God. He is probably all caught up in his guilt, shame, regret, and feeling like a bad human being and he doesn’t feel he deserves to be truely happy or find God, but he must overcome that and a counselor and the retreat will help.
I’m hoping for the same with my husband but Retrouvaille has really been a great starting point to get the ball rolling and really come to terms with our feelings in a non-hostile environment. I highly recommend it if you can.
I was told that St. Monica or St. Rita are good saints to learn about as they have gone through many problems in their families and specifically with their husbands.
My prayers are with you that you can find wisdom and strength and a closeness with God during these tribulations. He wants you to talk to Him and come to Him. He will be your strength - don’t give up even though you may feel let down or disappointed in life. This is your time to shine and show what you’re really made of and your true loving character. Don’t give up - persevere! My prayers continue to be with you - prayers never go to waste! You must trust that God will help you through this and you will be stronger and closer to God because of this horrible circumstance. You can make something beautiful out of this misery just as Jesus did. I’m reminded that there’s only a rainbow after the rain, and it’s always darkest just before dawn. Keep talking to God and you will see your rainbow and light again! I promise! God promises!

Also, if you go to Retrouvaille, they have a priest there on hand the entire weekend that is more familiar than most about marriage difficulties. He may be able to help you or refer you to someone that can. Sadly enough, I’ve tried to talk to multiple priests about advice in my situation and they have said “I really don’t have much marriage advice - you should see a marriage counselor.” I really understand wanting to get encouragement, support and advice from a priest in this situation though. It’s very important and you just need to keep looking for the right priest because not all are willing or able to help you with your situation. I also went to my arch dioscese to get a referral for a Catholic marriage counselor that understands and respects marriage in the same way I do. To be honest, she isn’t that great of a counselor but just like finding a good doctor or mechanic, sometimes you have to “shop around”. I know it’s really sad to say it like that, but a good counselor or priest can really help guide you in the right direction but bad advice can cause more harm. Also, a lot of the couples at retrouvaille also see a marriage counselor and may be able to refer you to a good Catholic one in the area that can give you spiritual direction. Good luck! I will say a prayer that you can find the right help because it is so important.

Hi Miracle. As someone mentioned earlier, a priest will more than likely tell you to go to a marriage counselor. Unless a priest is professionally trained as a psychologist, they really are not equipped to handle a marriage crisis of this magnitude. You may want to try Catholic Charities, and they will assign you a counselor.
You may also want to look up the following websites. I just found this information online for you. I don’t know how good they are, but it is well worth a try. They have a places worldwide.

Erine - Do you mind sharing some about how God used miracles to get you out of bad situations? Believe it or not, I have had very little luck finding actual stories about those experiences. People post that God helped them, but not how. I have searched for stories such as those because I think they would give me hope when I feel like maybe God will never help. I know that with God all things are possible, but sometimes I find myself wondering if he ever will help!
