Recently i heard that there were 6 “jars” of water changed to wine. The equivalent of 100 litres per jar (not sure how much that is in gallons) but that is quite a bit! Is that precise in biblical times? I remember receiving a 25 litre bottle of wine but 100? Sounds like way off!

Fr. Dan + M

-p.s. anyone know of a place where i could download an audio file of the Mass in Spanish?

yes, it about that 🙂
remember that back in those time, a wedding feast lasts for the whole week, with guests come and go.

Tak

The word for Jars was actually referring to a large vessel for storing bath water. They weren’t wine (or even water bottles), they were used for the ceremonial washing before a Jewish feast.

The Greek word used was 2-3 meteres each

A Greek metere was about 38 liters , so about 76 to 115 liters in each of the six jars.

Times 6 = 456 to 690 liters

Isn’t this a beautiful scripture where the super-abundance of wine demonstrates God’s providence? His supply is more than sufficient … it exceeds our expectations. Remember the multiplication of the loaves? There was always more left over than that which they started with.

Beautiful thoughts! Joysong! 👍

Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in you! 🙂
