No joke, I just saw that same commercial now on a regular tv channel, not religious. Look likes prosperity gospel scam.

“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves.” - Matthew 7:15

Counterfeit Christianity, American style. You’re right: the “Health and Wealth” gospel.

Seven or eight years ago, i went to a Benny Hinn affair as a hostile observer, complete with ear plugs (They were a life saver!). “Pastor Benny” didn’t show up because he had to save all of his energy for a late session that night, so another “man of God” did almost all of the talking: hours of it! He told the audience that “the Spirit” had assured him that anyone who donated to “Pastor Benny’s” cause would receive at least three times as much back. A lot of folks streamed forward, some of them probably stooges to make it look good.
The whole thing was disgusting. 😦

A few weeks before the show, i was told that it was essential to register. Baloney! Just a way to get your name and address for the begging letters!

Popoff must have come from the same mould…with a few updates. Even his name

I did some research on Popoff. He’s been exposed as a fraud many times. He takes advantage of the young, old, and sick. At his “healing services” he would call out people in the crowd and adress them personally, telling them things he couldn’t possibly know unless he knew them. But he was exposed as wearing an ear piece with his wife speaking through it telling him all the details. I guess he had his wife and other people strike up conversations before the service, get people to reveal some personal info, and have them selected for “healing.”

How can they sleep at night?
Lying on top of a few million greenbacks would probably be pretty comfortable though. 🤷

He makes the average used car salesman look like a canonisable saint.

Crusaderbear:
Didn’t notice your location until i’d posted.
Popoff better stay away from there!
The name also reminded me of the fate of the con artist/murderer in “The Night of the Hunter”.

Wow. Unbelievable.

I’ve seen lots of stuff like this too. And also went to a Benny Hinn ‘‘healing show’’ like Fiasco mentioned. Pure emotionalism and fakery. But there’s always the hope that people will open their wallets so God will ‘‘bless’’ them. 😦 :tsktsk: :tsktsk:

I really do also wonder about those ‘‘testifying’’ in this video. Are all these people being paid to deliberately deceive?

Is there no fear of judgement from the God they claim to serve?

So sad…and…well, there are no words really.

At the Benny HInn one i endured, they announced that they’d ceased producing dvds of their shows because of the expense. Yeah, right.
Fear of exposure by critics’ analysing frames in slow motion more likely.

They’d have to be paid a good bit to keep quiet, but it’d be only peanuts to Popoff, Hinn et al.

.
They might have a “Calvinistic” outlook that God favours them over the gullible ones. Can’t think of any more charitable words. 🤷
Has anyone ordered the red blood of Jesus prayer handkerchief?
.
And they accuse us Catholics of superstition!

I wonder what people like Popoff really believe. Do you think he is an atheist using the prosperity gospel to con people?

Worse than that! The people were handed out some kind of prayer card and asked to list their problems and issues that needed prayer. The Mrs. would scan through them, find some good ones and speak to her husband through the ear piece and make it look like God was taking a personal interest in them and their prayers would be surely answered. Let the buyer beware!

They may claim to serve God but it would not be outside the realm of possibility that they may not be believers at all.

They probably found out that taking advantage of people by posing as spiritual leaders can give them the fame and fortune they crave. I won’t be surprised if some of them had sociopathic /narcissistic tendencies.

What’s crazy is people are still buying into this all these years later.

This is the information age. Takes 15 seconds to find out who this guy and what he is about.

There is no record of Popoff ever being “ordained” in any Protestant/Evangelical denomination. He seemingly arose out of nowhere in the 70’s.

James Randi exposed this guy. I remember the whole “wife whispering into his earpiece” thing that people swore was prophecy from God.

If you have 4 and a half minutes then check out this video where it shows Peter Popoff doing his thing but also playing the voice of his wife that was in his earpiece at the time feeding him information.

To give you an idea how long he’s been at this, the video exposing Popoff was on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

A bit of a back story, for anyone interested:
Skeptic and magician James Randi was suspicious of Popoff’s routine, since it seemed very much like a magic trick. The first night with few people in the auditorium they scanned for radio waves. They scanned again during the show and saw a spike on one frequency. The next night they recorded that frequency and heard Popoff’s wife clear as day.

That’s what I was looking for. Thanks! My dad watched a rerun of this when I was a little girl, along with exposing Robert Tilton and Benny Hinn.

Unfortunately a lot of charlatans get away with this sort of thing…of course there are always the gullible…then those who genuinely are hoping for some miracle…then there are those who suspect it’s nothing but a sham but are loathe to say that just in case some of it may be true and they don’t want to be seen as criticizing the work of the Holy Spirit…and so those preachers keep raking in the money to show they are blessed…and that’s another reason they get away with it…preach the prosperity gospel to their flock…they see how they have been blessed and dripping with riches…so if they keep giving then maybe they will be blessed with wealth also…and people fall for it because of their own greed…it’s all a win win for those phony preachers.

when people call to get the “free” miracle water do you think they are asked to make a donation?
