A miracle that happened in my family years ago: My mother took my sister to a private beach. My mother was sitting in the sand and my sister, who was a very little girl at the time, was playing at the edge of the water. Suddenly my sister fell and went under the water and was having trouble getting up. As my mother sprinted down the sand to get my sister, a man walked over and pulled my sister out of the water and handed her to my mother. After my mother made sure my sister was okay, she turned to thank the man and he was NO WHERE on the beach! We think he was possibly my sister’s guardian angel.

Do you have a story?

I’m surprised no one has responded to this so far! Here is another miracle that I’m aware of:

When my father was a boy he lived in a two-story apartment building. There used to be an open truck next to his apartment building filled with soft materials. My father used to jump off the top of the building into the truck for fun. He marked the edge of the roof so he would know just where to jump. One day he ran across the roof and jumped on the wrong side of the marker, and could see see the truck in his peripheral vision as he was falling toward the pavement - he knew he was in big trouble. Suddenly he felt himself “float” down to the earth and landed completely unharmed. No doubt his guardian angel intervened!

There must be other stories out there! C’mon people!

I’m fuzzy on the details, because I’m bad at remembering family stories— I really ought to write them down-- but there was the (family member?) who was flying a plane in (wartime?). He couldn’t get his seat to eject, and he was trapped in the plane when it hit the water. Fortunately, (part of?) the glass canopy came off, and he was able to swim through the hole, get out into the open water away from the plane, and get rescued.

When the plane was (salvaged?), the glass canopy was perfectly intact.

When my son was about 4 years old, he climbed up the stairs of one of those old metal slides that used to be in every playground. It was the taller of two. He was almost to the top, and he must have mis-stepped or something, but I saw him falling off the stairs. It happened so fast I could not get there in time to catch him. By the time I got there I was scared and he was on the ground. He said he was okay, no cuts, nothing broken. I told him right then his guardian angel must have caught him because there is no way he wouldn’t have gotten by with no injury otherwise.

My son must have really liked that because I heard him retell that story on more than one occasion.

Oh!

So, anyhow, one of the previous priests in my parish. He was elderly, and had Parkinson’s.

He was cooking his dinner one night, and it involved a pot of boiling oil. Maybe he was frying chicken or something. I can’t remember specifically.

His sleeve caught the handle on the pot and jerked it off the stove. He had boiling oil all over his hands and arms…

…and absolutely zero burns.

He told us about it in the homily that Sunday. “I don’t know why I didn’t get burned! But I didn’t,” he explained to us.

A few minutes later, he’s elevating the host, and I’m thinking to myself, “Look at what you do with your hands…”
