Magic and satanism drew him into a spiritual pit, where he was, as he tells it, for many years. Then he met a Catholic woman, who gave him a miraculous medal…
(In 1830 in an appearance of the Virgin Mary since approved by the Catholic Church, she gave the design of the miraculous medal to a young nun, saying it would be the source of great graces.)
