It has been maybe years since I’ve posted. Long story short, I have found I have a chronic kidney disease and I am exploring my faith more. I am wondering if anyone recommends the Miraculous Medal or St Benedict Medal. I have such a devotion to Mary but Benedict is the patron of kidney disease sufferers. I can’t decide which medal to start wearing! I could do both, but I hate “clicking” when I wear multiple medals : D

You can keep the St. Benedict medal in your wallet. It is not necessary to wear it around your neck.
And, of course, remember to pray for St. Benedict’s intercession.

I wear in this order

Chest
Scapular attached to mm
Undershirt
Rosary attatched to bm
Shirt

They don’t click
But my scapular tore and mm went missing

Hi. Sorry to hear about your problem.:o I really like the idea of clicking medals - they’d be a constant reminder of who is praying for them! If it bothers you though, why don’t you do a Benedict Medal devotion - because this is specific to your needs - and a Brown Scapular devotion? This way you have two miraculous, on-going devotions, but without the clicks 🙂

If you desire to wear both medals, why not wear one on a shorter chain than the other?

My wife has kidney disease. One doctor told her that she would be on dyalisis soon. She went to another doctor for a second opinion, and he told her that she wasn’t ready for dyalisis yet, but that she may in the future. She stayed with the last doctor. She went in for a checkup about 2 months later and he said that her count had improved. She has been improving or staying the same for several years now. The doctor said this was very unusual in his experience and told her to continue to do whatever she was doing because he admitted he doesn’t know what she is doing to cause this.

She started wearing the miraculous medal and always wears it outside her blouse. And she didn’t start wearing the medal except out of devotion. She recently made the 33 day consecration to Mary.

May God bless and keep you. May God’s face shine on you. May God be kind to you and give you peace.

The scapulars I wear have miraculous medals and St. Benedict medals hanging from them, one on the left strap, one on the right strap. I have some from Rose Scapular this way.

I would touch the St. Benedict medal to yourself over where your kidney is and say a short prayer, or bandage it over the place with a little tape.

If one is wishing to enrol with a Benedict medal do I have to enrol with Benedictines saying the blessing or do I just order a medal and then ask any priest?

The above site is official and will tell you what you need to know about the St. Benedict Jubilee Medal.

Towards the end you will see the blessing for it. And, it doesn’t have to be done by a Benedictine.

Scroll down as soon as you get to the site…that’s where the info about the medal is.

From Fish Eaters:
Most people wear the Medal around their necks; some bury it in the foundations of buildings in order to bless them, hang them in their homes, or keep them in their car. When used in specific circumstances for a specific effect, such as when placed against a sick part of the body for healing, one should pray 6 Glorias, 6 Aves, and 6 Paters.
Also, the Benedictines have dispensed any priest to bless the medal with the formula here from the Roman Ritual:
Blessing of the Medal of St. Benedict
Priest:Our help is in the name of the Lord.
Response:Who made heaven and earth.
Priest: In the name of God the Father + Almighty, Who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in them, I exorcise these medals against the power and attacks of the evil one. May all who use these medals devoutly be blessed with health of soul and body. In the name of the Father + Almighty, of His Son + Jesus Christ our Lord, and of the Holy + Spirit the Paraclete, and in the love of the same Lord Jesus Christ Who will come on the last day to judge the living and the dead.
Response:Amen.
Priest: Let us pray. Almighty God, the boundless Source of all good things, we humbly ask that, through the intercession of St. Benedict, Thou pourest out Thy blessings + upon these medals. May those who use them devoutly and earnestly strive to perform goods works be blessed by Thee with health of soul and body, the grace of a holy death, and remission of temporal punishment due to sin. May they also, with the help of Thy merciful love, resist the temptations of the evil one and strive to exercise true charity and justice toward all, so that one day they may appear sinless and holy in Thy sight. This we ask through Christ our Lord.
Response: Amen.

Thanks for replies everyone. I do like the idea of carrying the medal around and wearing the Miraculous Medal since that is the prescribed method of wearing whereas the Benedict Medal just needs to be on the body or building. Thanks for that tip.

Does anyone have personal experiences related to either medal?

Thanks Dorothy, will check the site out. Just what I need! scapularkid8, your thread has given me ideas. And good to know the ways and means you have suggested - again, just what I need. I wish you the best with your cross, in your trials and tribulations, and it is inspiring to hear of such perseverance in difficult times. God bless.

I recommend that you wear the Miraculous Medal on a chain around your neck and the St. Benedict Medal in your wallet. God bless you.
