Mis-translating John 6:53

Is it possible that I have a newer version of these Bibles than you. Shouldn’t the USCCB and the Vatican’s website read just like that scanned pic??? I am well aware that Luke 1:42 does include the words blessed are you among women. I am kinda baffled.

On page 4, it says:
The text of THE NEW AMERICAN BIBLE, copyright (c) 1970 by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine, Washington D.C., is reproduced herein by license of said Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. All rights reserved.

so I’m not sure that good old CCD actually printed it…
There is an additional notice – All other materials including maps and illustrations, copyright 1970 by Catholic Book Publishing Co., New York, N.Y. Printed in the United States of America.

and on the next page, in the preface it says “…the very latest complete Catholic translation known as ‘The New American Bible’” … “many distinctive features found in our fine Edition of this fine modern translation” …

So, I gather it is just a pre-1980’s version. probably 1978 or before?

It has the notice from: Paulus P P. VI-
September 18, 1970 noting that “with the approval of Church authority, these translations may be produced in cooperation with our separated brethren” so that “all Christians may be able to use them.”

And it carries the no dogma breakers guarantee –

Nihil Obstat Stephen J. Hartdegen, O.F.M, S.S.L
Christian P. Ceroke, O. Carm, S.T.D.

Imprimatur: Patrik Cardinal O’Boyle, D.D.
Archbishop of Washington.

so, it is an earlier edition – I tend to think that the NAB first came out in very late 60’s or early 70’s, didn’t it?
This one was given to my older sister around 1977, so it can’t be any newer than that. Hmmmm… it’s the only one I’ve got down here at the moment…

correct the NAB was released in 1970. Mine is fairly new. Revised NT with Nihil Obstat given by Stephen J. Hartdegan O.F.M, S.S.L and imprimitur by James A. Hickey, S.T.D, J.C.D. and Revised Psalms with an imprimitur given by Most Rev. Daniel E. Pilarczyk President of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. I guess the revised NT is a difference between your edition and my edition of the NAB St. Joseph Medium Size Edition.

I do kind of agree. While Luke 1:38 does not have the words ‘blessed are you among women’ since the phrase is absent in some early MSS (as pointed out), they could have had, at least, pointed out the textual variant in a footnote or (more better) included the words in brackets.

I own a very worn and tattered 1970 NAB (from the Philippines), and it reads similar to that of Huiou Theou’s:
