1.) is it appropriate to have both the priest and a deacon do the washing of feet on Holy Thursday? Whatever the gain in efficiency, it seems to go against the symbolism of Jesus (singular) washing the apostles’ feet.
Otoh, at least they didn’t have EMHCs helping out.

2.) is it normal for bishops to wear a zucchetto? I went to the cathedral in Albany for Good Friday & Bishop Hubbard was wearing one, red (to match his vestments, I guess) and I wondered when he had been promoted to cardinal.

3.) what do you call the extra long cape thingie that the priest uses to wrap around his hands when carrying the cirobia with the consecrated hosts from the tabernacle? (also for the monstrance)
I know I know, but I can’t recall to save my life.

Only the priest should be doing the washing; a deacon can assist the priest (with the basin, for example), but the priest does the actual washing.

uh oh, my parish had priest and deacons washing feet that night and among those who got their feet washed were women.

For all this unusual stuff, I’ve become to appreciate my childhood’s parish where we had gone by the book and rules. As far as I coudl remember, none of the abuses mentioned here on CAF could be found at my formal parish.

Bishops wear a purple (more like magenta) zuchetto. I would suggest that you saw that on Bishop Hubbard’s head and thought it was red.

I would agree with this. The Bishop’s zuchetto is violet… Which could easily be confused with red from a distance imo, especially in red vestments.
