recently i had a miscarriage (im still suffering from some of the symptoms). my husband and i practice NFP and we were both wondering a few things…

how is my cycle going to be affected by this?
should i start calculating my cycle by the day i missed my period, or the first day of bleeding due to miscarriage? (im not sure if that matters)

also have a few questions to anyone who has had a miscarriage…
how long did you have vaginal bleeding? how long did you experience “cramps”? this is a first time for me. i dont have any children just yet. i was disappointed but God didn’t think it was time, and i am alright with that. He knows best

:console: I have miscarried as well

I believe you need to refrain from intercourse until your next period, and begin charting anew.

I miscarried early on in my pregnancy, so I cannot give answers on the length of bleeding. I need have cramps for a few days.
Prayers for you.

I use Napro and we began charting as soon as I quit bleeding. The Doctors ask that we try not to achieve for health reasons so we used days with nonfertile signs. The bleeding can very. It also may take a while for you cycle to become regular again.
Your hormones will take awhile to get back to normal also. I found myself really emotional at times. It is hard. I will keep you in my prayers.

I am so sorry 😦 :console:

Rest assured there is now one more saint in heaven! Your darling child is lovingly praying for you before the throne of God! 🙂

There have been lots of miscarriages in my family. One person is still having complications five years later. So, this might be normal, but you still should get checked out by a doctor. Just as appointments are necessary after delivering a baby, they are necessary following a miscarriage also.

Your doctor will know how frequently you need to come in for check ups, and if your body is healing properly.

**God’s blessings and love to you and yours! :hug1: **

I am so very sorry. It’s always sad to loose a baby, no matter how small.

I don’t have an absolute answer for you and everyone is likely to be different but I believe it would partially depend on how far along you were when you miscarried. The earlier you miscarry, the more like a normal period it will be. I know that if a baby is stillborn at four or five months along you can expect cramping and bleeding for anywhere from two to six weeks, just as with a full term pregnancy.

As far as charting, hopefully someone can answer for you. I’d guess you start charting when you started bleeding but would have to expect that a full cycle could be much longer than usual.

I had a miscarriage in June and got my first period after it, exactly a month later (almost to the day).
I bled for about 2 weeks, and that was after a D&C, so it was a bit longer than a normal period. I was 11, almost 12 weeks pregnant.
I would wait for your next period, then start from there. Your hormones are all over the place for a while.
So sorry for your loss,
God bless

thank you for your replies. im actually taking it rather well, because we couldnt confirm until after the fact that i was indeed pregnant (tests). everything else (including implantation bleeding) pointed to a yes. thank you for your prayers and replies, it means the world to me. i know it wasnt meant to be and that God knows best for me.

i am having a problem with blaming myself because in the beginning, before i had any idea or reason to believe i was pregnant, i was having a few drinks (not DRUNK, but a few here and there) so in a way i feel like i am responsible. BUT i didnt know until after i missed my period. i charted the days back to when i would have concieved, and when it would have attatched.

either way, the replies are most helpful. i looked things up on the internet and a lot of the articles i read seemed to contradict one another. thats why i wanted to hear it straight from an experienced mother’s mouth. thank you all for your time!

one more thing-
sort of…
lets say i WANTED to have a baby…
when is the soonest i will be able to concieve?

After my stillborn daughter I concieved with my first cycle, which was just two months after her birth. Unfortunately that baby I miscarried. It kind of depends on why you miscarried. I have heard of people getting pregnant right away and delivering healthy babies. That is what my doctor thought would happen, with baby Joseph, but it didn’t and he was misscarried at around 14 weeks. I would recommend seeing a good Catholic Doctor. One doctor I saw was willing to let me miscarry three times before he would consider checking into why. I found a new doctor.

I had a miscarriage in April (with a D&C). We waited one cycle and concieved in early June. My doctor told me to wait AT LEAST one cycle because of the D&C (see, we did exactly what you said, doc!). Most docs reccommend one cycle between miscarriage and the next pregnancy (so wait until you stop bleeding, avoid pregnancy until after your next period). But there are those who believe that this is just because they like to use your periods to date pregnancy. 🙂 Don’t know about that. Unless there is something physically causing you to miscarry (not the usual case), there shouldn’t be a problem with getting pregnant after your next period.

But talk to your doctor. 🙂

Having a few drinks here and there before you even knew you were pregnant very likely did not cause a miscarriage. I have read that many times in many different pregnancy books. The one I recall right away is “What to Expect When Expecting.”

We were told to wait three months before trying again. I don’t necessarily believe this is what all doctors reccommend.

Hi justawhisper,

I am sorry to hear about your loss. I had a miscarriage two years ago. The doctor told me to wait 2 periods before trying again. That is what I did and I conceived again right away.

I think there are a couple of reasons for this. One is to make sure your body has had more than enough time to recover. The second reason is to give you a bit of time to grieve before your energy goes into a new pregnancy.
