We were just informed yesterday of our miscarriage. We have been trying for many years but unfortunately it was not God’s will.

Just a few questions.

Where did the soul go?

Can we pray to it?

Is it strange or wrong to name it?

As Catholics are we allowed to offer a Mass for her?

Please pray for us.
 
SonSearcher, I’m so sorry for your loss. The world might tell you it’s not a big deal, but so many can attest to the contrary. Every person has the right to be loved and grieved, even if they did not have the chance to be born. Your baby is very fortunate to have you for a mother.

I’m so sorry for your loss. Not only is it not wrong but it is a very good thing to name your baby, to pray for him/her and to offer a mass. Please grieve as if it were any other child.

I am so sorry for your loss, and please know that I am absolutely praying for you. I have suffered a miscarriage as well. You will see in my signature that I gave my little baby a name. That is perfectly acceptable. I believe with conviction that our spirits are eternal, and that our unborn are waiting for us in heaven. Consider your child as one who can pray for you, rather than you praying to her.

I am so, so very sorry for the heartache of this.
 
I am so sorry for you and your wife. May God bless you both and bring you peace and healing. I think you could speak to a priest about having a Mass in honor of the baby and if so led, name the baby. May Mary hold your precious child in her arms today.

Sorry for your loss. I’ll pray for you and your wife as you deal with this. My wife and I lost a child to miscarriage a year and a half ago.

If you haven’t already done so, here is an earlier thread that gives instructions on dealing with the remains (although if the doctor has already done something else, I wouldn’t worry about it).

Yes, you can name you child and do all the other things you mentioned. We had a regular funeral and I handmade a casket for our little one.

I had a miscarriage 4 years ago and still think about the little one I lost. There’s no reason you shouldn’t pray for the soul of your child or even name it if it makes you feel comforted.

I will say a prayer for you and your family. :hug1:
