So my parents left for vacation two days ago, and they will not be back for three more days. I am very busy during the days, but when I get home at night and sit down on the couch, or at the kitchen table, I really feel depressed. I feel empty without their presence in the home. This has nothing to do with me not being capable of handling myself, because I am 100% able of taking care of myself. I just miss not seeing their face. I feel really depressed. Is this normal? By the way, I am almost 17 years old.

Totally normal! If it’s cool, I’ll consider myself with you in spirit. :hug3:

I know you miss them, but try filling up the space with Jesus like St. Patrick did in Ireland…

St. Patrick’s Prayer (part)
Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ behind me, Christ before me,
Christ beside me, Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me.
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all that love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

It’s normal to feel a sense of loss if you are used to having people around and then the house is empty.

Oh yes it is normal. Even when my parents stay with us for a few days, when they leave again I really feel the loss of their presence and I left home 35 years ago!

Perhaps you might need more contact with them in general?

Of course this normal. It is actually a good sign because it means that you all love each other. Try to keep busy and find things to do outside of the home. Perhaps plan a nice dinner for your parents for when they return. Or perhaps get some chores done.
