Saw this in the Liturgy and Sacraments forum and so I thought I would ask this question on this forum …
We are using the “Missa Emmanuel” in our parish for Advent in which they complete annihilate the Agnus Dei (presumably to fit it in with the music). So in other words, this composer (Proulx?) created his own liturgy … is this not liturgical abuse? How do parishes get away with this? Here are his lyrics:
Jesus, Wisdom and Mighty Lord, you take away the sins of the world, Have mercy on us, have mercy on us.
Jesus, true branch of Jesse’s tree, you take away the sins of the world, Have mercy on us, have mercy on us.
Key of David and Dayspring from on high, you take away the sins of the world, Have mercy on us, have mercy on us.
Desire of nations, our Emmanuel, you take away the sins of the world, grant us peace, grant us peace
So… we get a completely revised Agnus Dei (funny since “Lamb of God” is not EVEN IN THERE!)
So, is this liturgical abuse? If so, what can be done?
