Missal Question

I picked up a copy of “The New Marian Missal”, 1962 ed. in a used book store. For $4.95 I couldn’t pass it up.

My question is: How was it used? There are 5 colored ribbons in it. Why? If I attended a Tridentine Mass could I use it?

Yes, the missal you describe is for personal use while attending the “Tridentine” Mass, that is, the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite.

I have a daily 1962 missal as well. I use three of the five ribbons like so:

1. 
   *]one at the “propers” (the prayers and readings for this particular liturgical day; e.g. March 25, Annunciation)
   *]one at the “commons” (the “generic” prayers and readings used for liturgical days like today; e.g. the Common of Martyrs on the feast day of a martyr)
   *]one at the beginning of the “ordinary” of the Mass (the unchanging parts of the Mass, beginning with the Sign of the Cross)
