Missalettes at Mass?

Bingo. The most charitable approach to the issue by any pastor is to support people in their efforts to follow the Mass. If some need a missal, then don’t hinder it.
True…

However, there is nothing wrong with some simple cathecisis on when people should use them…not necessairly as an edict, but as an opportunity to give folks something to think about.

I also think it’s a pastor’s responsibility to have strong proclaimers of the word from the ambo…so that people can’t say ‘we have unclear readers’

Of course…then you go places where parishioners use the missal as a scorecard to see if they can catch the celebrant ‘screwing up’ so they can run off to the bishop…that’s one of my personal favorite things to watch…
I am sorry that you are watching others and not paying attention to the Mass. (Now I am sure you are not actually saying that it is just how it comes across)

In my case my hearing is not always clear and I read some lips in general conversations, in Mass this is not possible. So I follow in the Missals provided when mine is forgotten. I will sigh and put it aside when the speech and readings don’t match. But, then I am not sure what is bieng said. Sunday Mass is the one I have a hard time following. Weekday has fewer distracting noises.

The Mass is such an overwhelming experience for me that I must have a missal (I bring one from home) to help “anchor” myself by reading these most wonderful words, in addition to hearing them and seeing what is going on around me.
