Missed Confession Right Before Easter!

Heya, I’m just looking for confirmation on this - I am NOT to receive communion tomorrow, Easter, correct?

I waited to go to confession at the usual church I go to when I visit home and my parents. Unfortunately, I got there to find an empty church, no priest and no reconciliation! I wasn’t the only one left wondering, there was another person who had the same idea as I. There’s no mention of why not the parish web page.

It’s not my fault that I wasn’t able to receive absolution, but I don’t think that I’m in a state of able-to-receive Christ, right?

If you are in a state of mortal sin then no, you should not receive communion until you have gone to confession.

If you have committed venial sins then you don’t need to go to confession for them to be forgiven.

And just to keep in mind for next year, during Lent parishes offer many extra hours for confession and communal Reconciliation services. Once you get to the Triduum, however, many parishes stop offering confessions.

You could try and show up to an Easter Vigil tonight and wait for that Mass to be done and then ask the priest if he could quickly hear your confession - depending on your area the Vigil may not get done till late. You could also go to Easter Mass early and try and track down the pastor quick and ask if he’d do that.

If you know that you are not in a worthy state to receive you probably shouldn’t - so try those options if you have the time.

very few parishes have confessions once the Triduum begins, although some do have them on Good Friday, almost none will have them the day of the Vigil because the priest is on the go literally from dawn till dusk when the celebration begins. Did your bulletin give the schedule for Holy Week?
