At first, I overslept for the 8AM mass as I typically make it to work at 9. Made it to work for 9:20AM after walking the dog. Planned to go to noon mass and make up the time at the end of the day, but needed to get allergy shots because I waited 5 weeks to get one and today I needed to get one (should have gotten one in the last two weeks). There was a 5PM mass, but I didn’t want to make up an hour next week as I already have a half hour to make up. I got off at 550PM and headed home to go to the 7:30PM mass.

At 7:30PM, there was a mass near my house. But I chose to pick up my wife’s prescription after calling three separate pharmacies to get it. I picked up Halloween candy as well. It was a 15 minute drive to the pharmacy and 15 minutes back, home at 8:15PM.

I was wondering if this was gravely sinful or sinful at all. I know when you’re sick, you are excused from mass (and I’ve gone a lot when I was sick). But what about running an errand. And if the missing mass part is not gravely sinful due to circumstances (aka venial sin), could sloth be mortally sinful? I haven’t had much to do at work - very close to completing my filing but could do some tutorials.

Will do. Thanks. Do I need to abstain from communion tomorrow?

I am not being snarky at all here, sorry if it comes across like this, but this can easily be solved in the future if you are a little more organised about your day. I’m a last minute kinda person too by the way but planning is the key 🙂 go and see your priest he will advise you

Agreed. I could have been more organized. Thanks. By the way, not snarky out all. You were very polite with how you explained it. Trying to listen to the readings and homily from EWTN.

To anyone that might have missed (for any reason) as well, here are a couple of links:

I missed this one and the assumption feast day last year. It was my first year in and a lot was going on, but I made sure to come this year. The priest played ‘oh when the saints go marching in’ on his phone at the end of mass 🙂

Welcome. I’ll pray that we’re mindful and plan ahead for these masses. It’s such a reward to live in a country where we freely can exercise our faith.

It appears to me there really wasn’t a serious issue why you couldn’t make it to Mass. Please refrain from receiving until you have had a chance to go to reconciliation. My rule is if I’m too sick that I wouldn’t go to work, then it’s probably ok to miss Mass or if one of my elderly parents were ill and I’m needed to care for them.

Thank you. I agree. I could have made the 8AM mass and the 5PM mass had I planned more carefully. I could have went to the 730PM and got my wife’s prescription tomorrow. I put it off and that’s where the sin came in. The 12PM was a medical reason but had I gotten the allergy shot last Friday or on Monday or Tuesday, I wouldn’t have needed to get one today.

Well, there you go. Having made an examination of conscience you should now know what to do concerning communion tomorrow and confession. God’s mercy is unending. Don’t beat yourself up about it.
