I can never wake up on time on weekdays. I like to sleep late on weekends and my parish offers 6:30 pm mass.
I knew that I had to go out to dinner at a friend’s house that night with my family. I was planning on going at 11 am.

However, something came up and I could not go to 11 or 12:30 mass. I could have asked to go to mass while at the friend’s house, but my parents would have said no as it would have been rude to leave.

Am I in mortal sin? I feel awful about it. If I had know I wouldn’t have been able to go at 11 I would have woken up earlier. I also could have been more demanding about going to mass.
I need to be more responsible.

If you are underage and have no transportation, no sin.
But consider when “things” come up…that nothing is more important than Mass.

Try planning your day around a mass instead of planning a mass around your day.

Were you given a choice about the morning or afternoon mass?

Being an adult means making adult decisions about what you do the night before. That way you are awake for mass.

Life as a Catholic is easier when you plan your day around a mass instead of planning your mass around your day.

I missed Mass this week. My car is very broken and about to find the scrap metal place.
Last Sunday my non baptised future dil took me, volunteered without being asked. They are struggling with fuel expenses this week so I resisted asking. Fuel is 1.50 a litre here and it would be an 80 minute or so round trip. I will ask them next weekend and fill fuel in their car again.
Sometimes we just can’t go and God understands.

Or I walk the 6 km or so to and from the rural mass offered once a fortnight here

Try having a conversation with your parents and explain how much attending Mass means to you, and how you feel if you miss it. Be calm and polite but really explain how you feel and that you’re serious about attending every week. Then when you have a busy day planned, remind them that you need to go Mass and make sure it’s part of their plan. If you don’t speak up and ask ahead of time, they might feel inconvenienced. But hopefully if they know you take it seriously and that it’s the most important part of your weekend, when you ask to attend they will be flexible. But you do need to coordinate with them ahead of time if they are driving you.
