Missing A Holy Day

Hey everyone. I had a question regarding tomorrow’s holy day. I have a state contest for a club I am in in my high school. The trip leaves Friday night, and I really want to go to mass, but it will be a real hassle to get to the vigil Mass and then to the bus. We will be gone Saturday, as well, so I can’t make it that day either. Would this be a mortal sin, and if so would god forgive me for knowingly skipping a holy day?? Thanks in advance for your help!

If you can’t make mass because of travel then it is not a mortal sin. While sports or clubs should never take place of a Holy Day, your situation isn’t easy.

That said, you should do something to maintain the Holiness of the day. At a minimum, you should read the readings and Psalm for the mass. But if you have time, I recommend watching the mass on YouTube, I have done this when travel did not allow me to attend mass.
