Missing church for school activity?

I am involved on speech. Usually we spend all day Saturday competing and come back later that night. But for districts it is on a Sunday and we would leave Saturday afternoon. How can I go to church and compete? I could talk to him and try to see if we could leave at 6:30 ish on saturday because church ends at 6 but what else would I do if he says no? The coach probably wouldn’t let me just go to church on my own but I think I’m the only Catholic on my team and the competition starts really early in the morning at 7 or 8.
 
I think you are excused from the obligation in this circumstance.

Without explaining why you think he might be excused, anyone might think that anyone could be excused for school stuff or whatever.

OP, I think you and your parents (if they are concerned) ought to discuss this with your priest. First, he will know the right questions to ask you in order to best evaluate the situation. He may be able to give you some good advice. And he may be able to give you a dispensation if he thinks that is needed.
 
A school competition that starts at 7 am on a Sunday morning? Who planned that? If I were a parent in that district I would be on the phone ASAP.

These are the days when non-religious people are becoming almost the majority and making big decisions. More and more businesses and stores are opening on Sundays and at earlier hours, too. Many jobs are forcing people to work on Sunday compared to previous decades. Religion is incrementally being forced out of society.
