Missing Mass; Reasons Valid?

Hi,

I was travelling to a memorial last Sunday with my dog who could not stay alone in the vehicle. Did not plan to have watched so could not in good conscious attend Mass and risk dog’s health. I wanted to go very much as I was near my favorite parish!

I planned on going to confession any way but this week have a sinus infection. Not exhibiting outward signs of sneezing etc, just minor pain and tired. All things being equal I feel I should skip again as I don’t know if I’m contagious.

The actual crux of my question is IF I WANT to attend Mass but feel I can’t does this mitigate the “sin”? I know to just skip to watch football etc is a mortal sin but if in my heart I’d rather be nowhere else and decide I can’t/shouldn’t does that make the sin not mortal?

I ask as confession where I live is a slim window and not always to make it due to work and again if sick today… I’m going to try but if not will have to wait at least another week. I’m hoping to feel better by Sunday night Mass worst case scenario.

Well,

I wouldn’t say impossible in this case.

Just poor planning and solutions did not occur to me until too late.

I coulda sholda been more vigilant. Hence my guilty conscious.

Empty Churches are the fault of the Clergy and the hirarchy in failing to provide services that are relevant and useful. The logic of this thread is the same as blaming the public for failing to turn up to a bad movie. It’s time for the Church to a accept the reality.

It sounds like you might not understand what the Mass is. You should read Scott Hahn’s book The Lamb’s Supper.

Yes, unfortunately I’m a Catholic and have Papal decorations for humanitarian service.My father is a Knight of St Gregory and my uncle a Bishop, I was a head altar boy and Eucharistic Minister in my youth. However, the main emotion I experience now, when I attend Mass, is irritation with the whited sepulchres and anachronistic attitudes.

There are Catholics in many parts of the world who, because of persecution, can’t attend mass. There are sadly many who can be killed for doing so.

You might want to consider that. If the priest is validly ordained, who cares about the surroundings. Christ becomes present to you. That should be your only consideration.

Even IF you missed Mass because of your own fault, you can still attend Mass, just don’t go to communion IF you have any doubts of your state of Grace. There is no requirement to receive the Eucharist every time you attend Mass. If in doubt send your Guardian Angel and take a Spiritual Communion. :signofcross:
