Missing Mass While in a Third World Country?

Hi all,

I am in college and I have been selected to travel to a third world country next spring with a few of my classmates as a part of our premedical training. Our task is to instruct and administer health care to those who have nothing. This program is very selective and it is a great honor to be picked for it.

However, I realized that this trip will span over two weekends, during which I am not sure if I will be able to get to Mass. I doubt that this part of the country even has Masses to begin with. I do not want to have to decline my acceptance, as it would be very helpful to me in getting into medical school and learning how to serve others. However, I don’t want to willingly miss Mass if I’m unable to find a time.

Is this a licit reason to miss Mass? Any advice?
 
If someone is unable to attend Mass then his obligation is abrogated. If you are in a third world country where attending Mass is either impossible or unsafe then your Mass obligation would be abrogated.

Your intention is to help people, not to miss Mass. You are fine to go on this trip.
