Hello everyone. I believe that I know the answer to this question, but just to make sure I wanted to see what you guys thought.

This weekend I was not able to attend Mass due to work obligations. To clarify, I was not able to attend the Saturday anticipated Mass because of a work meeting which lasted until 5:25 ish. (Mass began at 5.) Then on Sunday, I was working from 7:00am till 5:00pm, and there were no longer any Masses being offered. I could not have left work early either.

I desperately desired to attend Mass but since it was no possible for me to do, I did not commit a mortal sin…correct?

Thanks!

From what you have described, it does not sound like a mortal sin. Work can be a legitimate reason to miss Mass (provided, of course, you are not asking to be scheduled at those specific times just to get out of going to Mass). It sounds like you had obligations that prevented you from attending either the Vigil or on Sunday.

I would encourage you to try to go sometime during the week if that is possible. I think it’s a good habit. Though we must be clear that we are not free to substitute daily Mass for our Sunday obligation at our own whim, nor are we obligated to do so.

I am going to ask a priest to in case, and see what he thinks. I will be attend Mass on Wednesday in the Extraordinary Form :).

Thank you!

Sounds great! I’m sure the priest will be able to explain it better than I can. :o God bless!
