I will be going to QC during the summer for an exchange, and there may be a possibility that I might not go to Mass there (although I’m praying that I will be able to). Would it be considered a mortal sin if I missed Mass because I was prevented and not allowed to?

Just wondering…what’s QC?
I’m guessing it’s “Quebec City.”

I would suggest that if you do your very best to attend Mass and are prevented from doing so, it would not be a mortal sin. I think you have to make an honest effort to attend and not just an 'oh well, I tried" effort. God will know if you really tired and were prevented form attending, don’t fool yourself because you cant fool Him.

God Bless!

If you are going to Quebec City, I believe there are many churches there and there is no excuse for not attending Mass and by not going it would be a Mortal Sin.
If you are sick,or some extraordinary case occurs then you may miss Mass but other than that you need to go to Mass.

Talk to your priest.
One of the very good boys in my parish was going to miss a camping trip because he knew that he would be miles away from a church. His parents spoke to our Pastor and the boy was given dispensation.
Father told him to pray a Rosary and read from the Bible for an hour.
Not only was he able to go camping with his troop but also was a good example for the other boys!

I can’t help but chuckle at this post. I work in a job that literally keeps me from mass for 2 weeks a month. I work on drilling rigs and I’m not in a position to go to mass as a result. I mentioned this to my priest and his response to me was basically, “I’ll see you at Confession when you return.” He later explained to me that it is venial sin, but it wouldn’t hurt me to confess my venial sins regularly.

I would think that what the other people said is correct, if you are making every effort to go then you are doing what needs to be done. If you miss, then go to Confession anyways. Besides, it would be better to have your soul clean then to sit and wonder if it’s clean…
