Missing sunday mass - mortal sin?

I was vacationing with my wife and her family (whom are not catholic) in a very unfamiliar vacationing area along the west coast and was unable to find a catholic church on sunday. Is this considered a mortal sin? Can i still recieve communion or should i go to confession before i do to be on the safe side?

Also i was wondering if attending a non-catholic wedding of two baptised persons was also considered a mortal sin.

I’d say it was a venial sin, because you had the intention and desire to go to Mass, but just couldn’t find a parish. However I think it remains a venial sin because you probably should have looked it up in advance. I think you need not go to Confession though.

And no attending any wedding is not a mortal sin. A marriage between two non-Catholics is considered valid in the eyes of the Church anyway.

If you made a legitimate effort to find a Mass to attend, then you did not sin.

As long as the two persons are non-Catholic you are free to attend, it is a valid wedding. If one or both is Catholic it becomes potentially sinful.
