The institute has absolutely wonderful. Over the past few years I have met and gotten to know several of their priests here in Saint Louis and at other apostolates around the country and can honestly say I have never met a better group of priests or people for that matter. I am sure that is to the credit of Msgr. Wach, their founder. Here are some pictures from their apostolate in Saint Louis, Saint Francis de Sales Oratory. You can also find many more here.

Is there a city, town, state that might have the ICKSP and the FSSP within at least 1 hour of each other? That would be paradise!

In NJ there’s an FSSP in Pequannock and a ICKSP in West Orange, (about 25 to 30 min. apart)

Would you dare to say, that there is a high number of traditional Catholics in the area, is there
a good demand for both of them ? So, would it be safe to say that they are there to stay?

Can you either post here or send me via private message, neighborhoods/towns that you would consider close to the FSSP area, that are safe and not too expensive. If
something nice stands out to you, even if its an hour away, please let me know.😃

I haven’t been to Our Lady of Fatima chapel yet but from what I’ve read they’ve been around since the early 1970’s as for St. Anthony’s they’ve been dedicated to the Latin Mass for a long while, but the ICKSP is relatively new, they assigned a priest in 2007.

As far as inexpensive places to live that’s a little bit of a tough one. The area is regarded as having the highest cost of living in the US, but Warren and Sussex counties are cheaper than Morris and Essex, they’re to the west and within an hour of both chapels. The border of Pennsylvania is also within an hour of the area and once you cross the border property taxes and values go way down, because once you get out there you’re no longer considered a suburb of NY. A really nice house in Western PA would probably cost less than half of the equivalent house in NJ and the property taxes would be a third.

There are relatively cheap places within 15 minutes of West Orange and 25 minutes from the other one, but Newark isn’t really a desirable place to live.

I just want to vouch for the FSSP OLF Chapel. They have three priests, one very recently ordained (within the past year), a young man named Fr. Damonn Sypher. He is an excellent priest, who I can personally vouch for, as I spoke to him on the phone for a long while about my possible vocation. We also email each other and he is a brilliant man and really gives a sense of “the bigger picture” of the Church into the future, so to speak. He is not afraid to speak the truth and is unashamed in Catholic identity. He also has a cool name, hah.
 
I’ve attended frequent Masses at the St. Francis de Salles as well and I really liked them. They’re a good group and their choir is gorgeous!

One might be able to drive from the ICRSS parish in Chicago to the FSSP Mass in Naperville, Il in less than an hour but I wouldn’t try it in rush-hour traffic. There is also the SJC in Chicago.

parish in Chicago? Do you know of the actual zip codes?

Names of the neighborhoods would be enough to get me started.

I was joking about Newark. It’s very dangerous, but not so dangerous that it’s not worth a trip to the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart (cathedralbasilica.org/)

Places in NJ that might fit your requirements are Hope and Blairstown. In PA, East Stroudsburg and Stroudsburg. These towns are right along I-80 which runs right across the state to Manhattan. I would google Blairstown (for example) and get look at the map of the area. Anywhere along I-80 would be ideal for an easy commute.

As far as price range it’s hard to gauge and depends on what you do for a living, you might look at towns much closer or even the actual towns (West Orange and Pequannock) and find they’re reasonable.

I’ll be honest with you. It’s probably not in the safest of places in the world but it is just south of the University of Chicago and close to the Museum of Science and Industry. At one time I knew all the districts and zipcodes in that area, having worked in the post office almost 50 years ago, but one of the nearest and more prominent suburbs would be Oak Lawn, although you do have another EF parish (St. Thomas More) closer if you were to live there.

Last year Mass was celebrated at our Oratory by this wonderful organization.
They are trained in the extraordinary form, will have to schedule them again for this year.

They have a bit more… flair than the FSSP does. They are very Renaissance-y. I hear that they love the Baroque, but then so do I. Their Chicago church is being remodeled extensively to fit this style. They have a special choir dress, very easily identified. The priests and oblates (men who help the priests and who are members of the ICKSP, more properly the ICRSS, and can also be deacons/subdeacons) wear black choir dress which has blue piping with white rochet. The Superiors wear the same thing but in all blue, and I think their piping is white. Everyone wears this medal on a blue and white ribbon, but I’m not sure what medal it is.

I would say that, overall, the difference between the FSSP and the ICRSS is that the ICRSS tends to be pickier. I would mostly liken the FSSP to a sort of mission EF group. They are not afraid to go into dioceses that will only give them small and/or ugly churches. Now, they do dress them up, but they still look modest. That is not to say, however, that the FSSP does not have some extremely beautiful churches in their own right. They do. However, IMO, all of the ICRSS churches after renovation are absolute jewels. The ICRSS’s attitude seems to be “all or nothing.”

Yes, the FSSP only recently came to my Archdiocese and set up in one of the parishes; they celebrate Mass in the “family life center” which I’m guessing is like the parish hall.
 
ICRSS gave me my first sight of the EF and I was just so completely taken by the reverence of the Mass. I still remember how I felt that night, like I’d been yanked into Heaven!

I’m so grateful for this beautiful gift of God that I support the Institute’s seminary fund so that more of its children will be out there hard at work. How I wish there was an apostolate nearby me (as opposed to next state over, alas), but at least I know there are good things going on in the Catholic world!

Group from the Institute.
Today I received a e-mail asking if I wanted to schedule another mass in the near future.

Hammond, Indiana would be probably be within a 20 minute drive of the ICKSP church. The church itself is in a dangerous part of Chicago, but the parking lot is right next to the church, so if you drive you wouldn’t have to walk around the neighborhood for any reason.
