I want to financially support catholic missionary activity to muslim countries, but it seems like catholics have gotten both political correct and pussilaminous about missions. So, I am considering support evangelical groups. Any thoughts? Suggestions?

The Catholic Church does send missionaries into Muslim lands. Many are killed. More are in hiding.

I would say contact one of the more missionary orders and see what they say.

A better idea would be to contact inJesus or one of the other posters on here who live in the Middle East. Many of their Churches need help doing God’s work. There are Catholic groups in many of the nations over there that can always use support.

Be wary when donating to evangelical groups. SOme of them may use the money for anti-Catholic missions as well.

I realize that many evangelical groups are anti-catholic. Some of my good friends are anti-catholic evangelicals. 😃 While it’s not ideal, I would rather they convert to protestanism than not at all.

As for catholic missionary groups, they seem exclusively focused on inter-religious dialogue and charity work. While I have no problem with either, I am frustrated that we seem to be neglecting old fashion evangelism. Certainly, missionaries died in the past but that never detered us before. We used to be proud of our martyrs. And before you say, why don’t I go? I just don’t think God has given me the calling or the gift.

Oh, I would not say you should go.

Don’t forget that there were more Catholic Martyrs in the last centruy than in the other 19 combined.

There are some who do evangelise. Yes, the current focus is on charitable works, but there is still some teaching.

Well, if you know of any missionaries groups, let me know.

Actually, I think being a Catholic missionary to a muslim country is the world’s deadliest profession, well ahead of Bearing Sea crab fishing.

No Doubt…is anybody doing it?

I’m a Muslim and I would tell you to support the evangelicals if you really want to support missionary work to Muslims. Or maybe even the Mormons.

Because they are so much nicer…

The evangelical missionaries I have encountered genuinely want to help Muslims (in my opinion) by bringing them into their faith. Whereas the Catholics I seem to have encountered would rather that Muslims be atheists or anything other than Muslim, and it has more to do with real bigoted hatred and misunderstanding of Islam than an actual desire to share any truth with them.

That’s what I think anyway. 😊

Such unabashed hatred and bigotry has no place in modern society.

I am sorry that that was your experience.:o

The Oblates of Mary Immaculate are a good group that does mission work in Muslim lands (and has some martyrs in recent times as a result).

If you wish to help, here is a start:
Visit al-bushra.org (Huge Arab-Catholic website)
al-bushra.org/wayhelp/wayhelp.htm

Also, visit this link to help Palestinian Christians:
al-bushra.org/latpatra/christianpresence.htm

National (Catholic) Commission for Justice & Peace - Pakistan

Congregation of the Lebanese Maronite Missionaries

The East Timor and Indonesia Action Network (ETAN)

Hope this helps.

They are not really “Missionaries to Muslims” per se, but they are in Muslim populated countries. Whatever you contribute to them, part of it also goes to doing missionary work.

Just remember, leading by example is sometimes better than leading by the Bible. That’s my experience anyway. 🙂

It was not her experience. She is an American. She is just expressing an opinion based on her own personal feelings and a desire to stir the pot here.

There are Cathloic Christians in Lebanon who need help. They are under persecution. Most missionaries in Muslim lands are under the radar. There are many conversions taking place in Africa. Perhpas you could find societies working there.

**How many Mahometan children have been abduced by Christians, forced to convert, or killed, dismembered, and had their roasted bodied returned on a bed of rice to their families?

It happes to Christian children all the time in Pakistan and Iraq.**

I don’t think Catholics sould send missionaries for the purpose of converting people to the Catholic faith. I know it sounds strange, but that seems rather un-Christian. :twocents:

I think Catholics should send missionaries to poor countries only. Which Islamic country needs missionaries to come to their aid? 🤷

Buy them a few flack jackets and a Warrior APC to trundle around in.
You’ll need a big supply of bibles too, cos every one thats seen will be burned.

Kendy,

Try www.cnewa.org

Hope you find what you are looking for there. Love them anyway but beware the evangelicals. Kindness can all too often mask an ulterior motive.

God help you find your aposolate.

The Islamic countries where the gospel needs to be proclaimed?

Missionaries, by definition, are on mission to preach the gospel, not just provide humanitarian aid. Rich countries (such as they are in the Middle East) need the new birth offered in Word and Baptism as much as poor countries.

An easy way would to donate to the Chaldean, Maronite and Melkite (and Syriac, Copts under Rome) Churches and the Latin patriarchate of Jerusalem in the Middle East, if you are worried about it. And yes, the history of the Evengelicals is they target the Orthodox and those under Rome, instead of concentrating on the Muslims.

Albania has a growing missiion (our Church sends a lot on the Orthodox side). There are also missions in Sub Sahaharn Africa (Africa is almost on the cusp to become the fifth majority Christian continent. That would leave Asia), places like Nigeria etc.
