Hello,

Why were natives told by missionaries that only that particular sexual position was moral?

You can look up the Wikipedia article. I’m not going to link it because of some art o the site. The legend is that it was taught in colonial times using that nomenclature which would have probably meant puritanical missionaries. But it appears that it’s just that. A legend. The position obviously predates the term.

Yikes. Pornography on Wikipedia. 😦

I gotta find a good filter for my phone.

This is apropos of nothing, but I remember the radio show “Loveline” where teenagers could call in with questions about sex, relationships, drug use, etc, for an irreverent explanation from the hosts. (Funny, but not family listening.)

Anyway, I remember one kid called in and had a question about the missionary position, but kept calling it the “mercenary” position. The back-and-forth as the hosts tried to figure out what he meant was great.

Caller: Yeah, you know, she likes the mercenary position.
Host: The what?
Caller: You know, where like the guy is on top. Mercenary.
Host (trying not to crack up): Missionary. You mean “missionary”?
Caller: Yeah, exactly. Mercenary.

A relatively new friend of mine said he has read that the Church law in the middle ages was that any position except the missionary position was fornication. Anyone else heard of this?

Nope… the Middle Ages are a thousand years. And “a friend read”. Is not a good source.
You can google it or read the article I referenced. Just be careful with the google search.

I’ve heard a lot of things about what the Church used to teach or say. I would hazard a guess that at least 90% of it is false.
