A Missouri priest who was cleared of sex-abuse charges in June has filed a defamation lawsuit against his accusers.
Father Xiu Hui “Joseph” Jiang, of the St. Louis archdiocese, charges that he was the target of religious and ethnic discrimination. His lawsuit names the parents of his accuser, the city detectives who investigated his case, and the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP), which issued a series of statements implying his guilt.
catholicculture.org/news/headlines/index.cfm?storyid=25414&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitterThe lawsuit argues that the charges against Father Jiang were brought by a boy with a troubled family history and a record of making similar unsupported charges. The suit says that the accusations “were brought by a deeply troubled and unreliable 12-year-old boy at the suggestion of his abusive father."
Yes it is and if more such defamation suits were filed perhaps we’d see fewer false accusations. It is criminal to falsely accuse someone.
False accusations are a problem, sadly there has been basis for real ones too.Yes it is and if more such defamation suits were filed perhaps we’d see fewer false accusations.
Counter suits are always available, that is if you have the $$ to pay the lawyers. I know of some lawsuits which are settled out of court just to avoid the hefty legal fees.Yes it is and if more such defamation suits were filed perhaps we’d see fewer false accusations.
Mary.
But it used to be that children were not believed by default and so the abuser priests continued their activities untroubled.Sure I understand the gravity of the accusation, but he’s 12 years old and troubled…by the sounds of the article, the poor child has been used.
Yes, exactly. Hopefully we will find a ground where justice prevails and does not “favor” either a priest or an abused victim. But it used to be that children were not believed by default and so the abuser priests continued their activities untroubled.
Now the law enforcement is overcompensating for the past errors by treating all children testimony as reliable and all priest testimony as unreliable.
that is a very good question. Is this the first time that SNAP has found itself on the wrong end of a lawsuit?
For that matter, will the mainstream media cover this false accusation? Have they even covered this case in the first place? Is this the first time that SNAP has found itself on the wrong end of a lawsuit?
this is the first I have heard of it.For that matter, will the mainstream media cover this false accusation? Have they even covered this case in the first place?
