Mo Rocca lector and open homosexual at Papal Mass

How do any of us know whether or not Rocca is apologetic or not about his gay lifestyle, that is, how many times he has gone to Confession to repent of his sins? Nor is it any of our business. Apparently he can be a lector at a Catholic Mass since all lectors have sinned and, presumably, are struggling with their sins and attempting to overcome them. That should be enough for you and anyone else.

I’ve seen Mo Rocca on the Cooking Channel, he has a program where he visits grandmothers and gets their best recipe’s.

I’ve also actually heard him on the Catholic channel, on the Lino Rulli program. If I remember correctly, he attended the papal mass a number of years ago when Pope Benedict was in the US.

I do understand that he identifies as gay. I haven’t ever heard him discuss if he is active.

There are more seminarians in Rome than anywhere else yet they don’t use them for reading even at Papal masses. Granted, it’s clear from a plain reading of the GIRM that that’s what should happen but in practice it seems that this is universally ignored 🤷

AFAIK, Mo Rocca is neither a pro gay-rights advocate nor an anti gay-rights advocate. He doesn’t seem to make much of an issue about homosexuality at all. However, given that he is a practicing Catholic, he MAY be a member of this Forum, and, if that is the case, he can speak for himself if he chooses!

Maybe he is not a gay rights advocate at all. In which case, why did HuffPo play this as a papal affirmation of the LGBT community?

I am of the same mind. I do not know this man other than a few times I have seen him on television. I did not know he was gay. On the other hand, also do not know where he stands with his same sex attraction. I never did like the celebrity thing. I would have rather they simply selected a random lector from their diocese.

Your darn right Protestants are watching, they have a justifiable aversion to the promotion of perversions. We will have a hard time explaining this away. “We have to be loving”; toward sin!!! Did anyone hear the gospel last Sunday!!!

I had a big problem w/ Mark Walburg ( I loved him in Wrath of the Titans, so cute!) but he also was in Ted, which I have heard is about as disgusting as they come. Why are the organizers of these stupid things so wowed by celebrity?
 
Give me a break people… Can we drop these “judge not lest ye be judged” dismissals and “maybe he repented” speculation? There’s a difference between dining with sinners and having them conduct a liturgy for you. And in this case… there is already a huge amount of confusion around Pope Francis and the things that he has said in interviews and elsewhere, especially regarding homosexuality. There are many, many uninformed Catholics and non-Catholics who really believe that Pope Francis is pro gay marriage and is changing doctrines of the Church based on statements he has made and that the media has misconstrued for their own agenda. And as of yet the Pope really hasn’t gone to great lengths to correct this image. I am sure he has his reasons. But when these uninformed people see an openly gay, pro gay marriage celebrity lectoring for a mass, of course this is going to reinforce that idea. Of course this is scandalous. I don’t think the Pope knew what was going on or had a say in this matter. I love Pope Francis’ willingness to go to the poorest of the poor, to dine with delinquents and prisoners. This is exactly the way the gospel calls us to live. This is a prime example of charity. But charity doesn’t mean that we should take a public heretic and put him in a place in the liturgy where he is going to be seen as a representative of the whole of the Church. Lectoring was originally intended for the priest to do anyway. What good are we doing anyone by putting this guy as a lector? Since when has the mass become a performance where we all need to feel equal and special warm and fuzzy inside? Last I heard we were supposed to be humble at holy mass and filled with a deep and reverent fear of God. Let’s get back to that vision of mass.

“Explaining away…” story of my life. Welcome to the “new church” where nothing has to make sense, everyone is expected to go to any lengths to make people feel welcome, and the mass becomes a talent show for people to feel good about themselves. God bless our holy bishops and priests, we need them right now.
