‘We accommodate. We compromise. We avoid conflict — even when conflict is the only proper course,’ Archbishop Tartaglia wrote
Scottish Catholics have become too “wishy-washy” in standing up for their faith, the Archbishop of Glasgow has warned.
In an essay for Crux, Archbishop Philip Tartaglia said “too many believers” have submitted to secular values and failed to stress their faith.

Amen, thanks for posting. The church indeed has a fight on its hands and while it fails to see it as such, it is a fight it is losing.

Aye. We need not care for the whims and insanity of the world. We are the salt of the world, it’s light in this ever darkening age!

Applicable to all denominations.
‘Do not be conformed to this world’ Rom 12:2, ESV footnote says the Greek term is ‘age’.

I agree but this applies to all religions in the modern west, where for the first time the mainstream culture and the majority of people are secular or borderline atheist, with a deeply ingrained ethos of personal freedom (only a little less than hedonism, frankly) that often comes into conflict with the morality of the Abrahamic religions, in areas such as sexual morality in particular.

Even Muslims, the most strikingly distinct faith group from the wider culture and often perceived as the most uncompromising, lament the laxity of their youth and others in their communities. I’ve heard it often.

People of faith find themselves at odd with the culture, and sometimes of the receiving end of hostility from it.

I pray that we as Catholics do not recoil from the challenge of being faithful witnesses to the Gospel.

If I had a dollar every time I’ve heard a Catholic say they didn’t believe in Hell, or didn’t think confession was necessary, or even that the devil didn’t exist, I’d have enough for a pretty nice vacation. (literally, not figuratively)

People don’t know their own faith, and they don’t know their own faith as it actually is, as opposed to what they want it to be or think it is. Moralistic Therapeutic Deism is what most Catholics seem to be practicing these days. They forget that Jesus had a much tougher and less comfortable program to follow.
