There are passages in the Bible that have been fulfilled in remarkable detail by modern Israel. This is not stated in order to claim that Armageddon is near because the restoration of Israel doesn’t provide any clarity as to when Christ will return. But modern Israel as a fulfillment of prophecy is an amazing confirmation that Jesus is the Messiah.
The Jews rejected Jesus mainly because they rejected the idea of a Divine Messiah. Other reasons include the belief that the Messiah must restore Israel after Israel has been scattered among the nations. The scattering of Israel among the nations didn’t even occur until after Christ.
But the phrase “after Christ” can be misleading because it implies that Christ is dead. Jesus didn’t die and then go away. Jesus returned from the dead and then ascended as a living human. We are not waiting on the Lord to return from the dead, we are waiting on the living Messiah to return from a journey.
The Messiah is said to be like Moses and Jesus is like Moses in many ways. One way Jesus is like Moses is that Moses went up the mountain to be with God and then he returned. Likewise Jesus went to be with God and He will return.
Modern Israel fulfills prophecy but where is the Messiah who was supposed to lead this restoration of Israel? If modern Israel is the fulfillment of prophecy then it must be true that the Messiah is the Lord. The prophecy doesn’t say that the Messiah will not be the Lord; the prophecy says that the Messiah will be born a descendant of David.
We don’t think of a person born two thousand years ago as still being alive, but if Jesus is Divine, His remarkable longevity shouldn’t be a problem. To this day, any miraculous act that occurs anywhere in the world is something that could have been done by Jesus since Jesus is still alive. In a sense Jesus is still will us; He is merely out of sight. Modern Israel establishes that the Messiah must be the Lord. The Messiah is supposed to restore Israel and Jesus has now done this. He simply waited until He was over nineteen hundred years old to do it.
