Can someone please advise whether modern day prophets are acceptable in the eyes of the church? I have a friend who is trying to introduce my wife to a prophet and it just doesnt seem right to me. This prophet is non catholic if that makes any difference

As Catholics, we do believe that people can be given the gift of prophecy. Now, we do not believe that there is any more public revelation to be had.

Who is this prophet your wife would like you to meet? The Mormon “prophet”?

no not mormon thankfully

what can be phrophesied if there is no more public revelation

I once visited a charismaniac church that had a visiting speaker who clamed to be a prophet.

He actually stood up in the pulpit and denied the physical Resurrection of Christ! He claimed that Jesus didn’t have a physical body at the Resurrection, and the Holy Spirit needs (his word) a body to manifest through.

And people were eating this up with a SPOON!

Who can guess the three things wrong with his statement?

Mt.24:11 “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” Don’t be surprised to find false prophets. Jesus said it would be a sign of the end times. But there are not just false ones, but also true ones and you will know them by their fruits and by biblical doctrine

Prophets are still a part of normal church ministry, just the same as pastors, teachers, evangelists (Eph.4:11).

If this “prophet” actually has supernatural abillities, BUT his words contradict the Holy Bible, then the best course of action would be to carefully walk away and consider this “prophet” to be an “anti-christ”.

I would’nt go see the “prophet” in the first place.
Mark 13:22
For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect.
Mark 13:23
But take ye heed: behold, I have foretold you all things.
We have been foretold all things, there will be no new public revelations.
