I need prayer! It is for a very “modern problem”.

Recently, I have been tested by an issue and I need some advice and encouragement.

Some friends of mine, who I have known to be homosexual and in a relationship with each other, have decided to “get engaged” and have a civil partnership ceremony. They have told me, clearly quite unaware of my potential difficulties, and I am expecting them to invite me to the event in due course.

I don’t want to offend them, as I have tried to keep my friendship with them going, but I do not feel able in conscience to congratulate them or to attend the ceremony.

I do not want to appear bigoted or hypocritical, but I feel there is no way out: I cannot ignore them now or their new situation without revealing what I think.

I hope everyone will appreciate my dilemma. I have joined this message board specifically to get some help on this. I look forward to everyone’s views.

I will pray for you and for them. I might guess that if they know you well at all and know your religious background, if they took the time, they might well expect your feelings. However, while you won’t want to condone their “marriage” by attendance, you can still maintain a friendship. We are not to “enable”, if you will, but we are also not to judge. It’s such a fine line to not condone but to still “Love each other as I have loved you”.

I will be praying that the Holy Spirit endows you with the grace necessary to navigate this “modern” problem for you and gives you the words and the actions that are necessary and appropriate as you require them. God bless you.

Perhaps you could talk to your priest regarding how you should handle this situation. I would hope that he could shed some light on your problem. Good luck with this and God bless you!👍

Praying for your intention. I believe in standing up for one’s principles no matter what the consequences.

Praying for you to get the right answer.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us, and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
Amen.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Mattymoo:

This is a difficult dilemma but also an oppurtunity for you to test your friendship and draw a line in the sand.

I beleive and pray that your friends would and should respect your decsion to decline their invitation.

You still want to remain friends with them after this ceremony so why would they not want to remain friends with you after the ceremony without your attendence.

I’m praying for you and your friends.

Prayerfully,

Renato

I appreciate your moral dilemma which is a difficult one and if it were me, I would speak to a priest and ask his advice and base my decision on that advice.
Keeping you in prayer for guidance and strength and praying too that your friendship with them will be sustained.
