To what degree? Following Vatican II, allowing women altar servers when needed? Allowing for extraordinary ministers of the eucharist (or however a traditionalist want to refer to it). I am in favor of all of these.

Changing the positions on abortion, women priests, marriage, and contraception? No.

So am I a mondernist by your standards?

Well, maybe… But I’m looking for individuals who take pride in identifying themselves as “modernist” Catholics"…?

I am by NO means a “modernist”. However, I don’t really know what a “modernist Catholic” is. Could you possibly explain what it is? Is a “modernist Catholic” the same as a Liberal? A Protestant? A left-wing seperatist?

I may just be out of the loop, and if I am I apologize, but in order for me to place myself correctly on your own Religious-political spectrum, I will need to know some points where a “modernist” differs from a Traditionalist.

For example - here is a brief rundown in a few points that I agree/disagree with.

Female Priests - no

Female Altar Servers - no

Married Priests - no

More Tridentine Masses - yes

The Noble Guard - yes

The Palatine Guard - yes

Expansion of the Vatican - yes

Abortion - no

Habits - yes

There are more but I didn’t want to monopolize the discussion.

A modernist Catholic is someone who is not a Traditionalist Catholic… The traditioinalist Catholic opposes the OF and only attends Latin Mass.

So ANYONE, who does not attend a Latin Mass is a modernist? If that is the case than technically I am, since I attend a regular Novus Ordo vernacular Parish. I think there should mbe MORE Latin and Tridentine, but I understand that some require the vernacular in order to stay with the Faith. I just think most supporters of Vatican II (that I have encountered) think there shouldn’t be ANY Latin Mass and that it is dead.

Also, if this was the case, if that truly is what a modernist is, than I should think the thread would be over run by posts.

I would love to hear from modernist Catholics who think that there should be NO Latin Masses… I think every Parish should hold one Latin Mass every sunday, that way I would’nt have to drive so far myself when I get a hankering to go.

This is the Traditional Catholicism forum, so this thread really isn’t applicable here.

Are there any modernist Catholics out there who would love to end the Latin Mass service…? If such Catholics exist at all…?

You need to do some more research on the heresy of modernism. A modernist Catholic is not someone who isn’t a traditionalist.

I absolutely think there should be NO Latin Masses. I’ve been to several, in fact.

(I usually call them OF Latin Masses, though.) 😉

Well, I’m still learning, and thanks for your honesty… Could I oblige you to please explain to me why you feel that the Latin Mass should be ended.

I’m just a plain ol’ Catholic. Seems to me that’s what we all ought to consider ourselves.

I don’t think every parish should hold a Latin Mass every Sunday, but perhaps one parish in the area could have a Latin Mass perhaps every day.

It was a pun on NO as an often-seen abbreviation for Novus Ordo. In other words, I think there should N.O. Latin Masses – or, as I would usually call them, OF (Ordinary Form) Latin Masses.

I think you should be careful saying that your a modernist. Saint Pope Pius X warned against it in the Oath against Modernism. ( papalencyclicals.net/Pius10/p10moath.htm )

So according to St. Pope Pius X, a modernist is basically one who denies the supernatural aspects of the Church…

So why have self described Traditional Catholics been calling supporters of Vatican II “Modernist Catholics” then…?
