Hello! I’m a young Christian woman and I try to dress modestly. I’m in high school, and, like most girls my age, I wear leggings to school sometimes. However, dressing modestly is important for me, so whenever I wear leggings I make sure that I’m wearing a long, baggy sweater/sweatshirt that completely covers my bottom and pelvic area (because I know that wearing clothes that are tight around the bottom area can easily cause men to lust). My question is: Is it a sin to wear leggings even if the bottom and pelvic area is covered by a sweater because they’re still tight around the legs? My style is more tomboy/casual, if that helps. Thanks 😃

Wearing leggings is not sinful.

Lust is problematic even in Muslim countries where the women are covered from head to toe.

Also try not to think of your body as causing men to lust. It’s okay for a man to be sexually attracted to you.

As for me, I wear leggins in the winter, but only under a long skirt, because it is more confortable than tights.

You are right to wear something upon leggins, because I find that leggins alone is very vulgar.

You have to be very carefull that the leggins does not mold you excessively the bottom/pelvic area, because it would be more than vulgar!

If your top could be a little more longer than just covering your bottom it would be better, because it would not discovered you when you moove.

For exemple very long tee shirt or a sportwear style dress. Or a tennis woman skirt.

Today’s leggings are yesterday’s tights/pantyhose/nylons. The length of your top should be the same in all of these instances.

As a guy, when you see a girl wearing leggings with a longer shirt/sweater/dress, are you still tempted to lust because of her legs, or does the fact that the bottom is covered help to stop the lust?

A guy can lust after anything if he wanted to

So don’t worry about it. What matters is your intent

I will add that, as a woman I find disgusting to have to see a girl/ a woman who wear a leggings and that is too transparent, too mold and releveal too much the intimate areas.

So, thanks you too, to the girls and women who add something upon it! 😉

And not all women should wear it.

No, I am not enslaved to lust, I’m not an animal haha. And I’ve worked incredibly hard to protect myself and fight against lust. So when I see a girl with a longer shirt, I have immediate respect for her because she shows she respects herself and respects her dignity.

It may sound a bit prudish of me, but at college, I don’t go and talk with any girls who wear revealing and immodest clothes. Not because they are bad humans or something but because what I find truly attractive is a girl who has modesty for herself and respects herself enough to cover herself. The human body is a wonderful, beautiful, and holy thing, and girls that cover the sanctity of this is honestly a most attractive thing.

Attraction is not the same as lust. Lust is viewing a female as a collection of body parts. Attraction is valuing a woman as a daughter of God, body, mind, and soul!

I’m really attracted to men in well tailored suits. Should they not wear them around me because I’m attracted to them and it might inspire lustful thoughts?

5 MODEST Legging Outfit Ideas // How to Wear Leggings Modestly

This video can brings you an idea of what is the minimum acceptable for leggins, in my opinion. But I think it is what you already do! 😀

I think this is two-fold.

I think men and women have to work to avoid the temptations of lust. I can see a women in a bathing suit at an amusement park and not lust, I am not an animal. The same for you, you are a guy in a tailed suit, it is attractive, but does it make you lust? Seeing attractive females doesn’t make me lust.

Both men and women should dress in ways that protect our own dignity and protect our holy bodies, our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. We shouldn’t dress so others don’t lust. We should dress so we protect our dignity. Naturally, by dressing to protect dignity we dress so others don’t lust.

Does this make sense? Do you lust after well tailored suits or just find it attractive? I may find a woman in a bikini attractive but I don’t lust because women are not a collection of body parts, they are daughters of God!

@ChristinaAH I think a good way to think about this is, we want to show people our best assets, what truly makes us ourselves as individuals.

If a girl is wearing very revealing clothing, it is showing to others that her “best asset” is her body. But that’s not true! Her best assets are her interests, personality, her smile, her laugh, her jokes, her hobbies, her hopes! We want to show people we are more then our bodies!

Personally, I wear khakis, boat shoes, flannel shirts and sometimes a sports hat. If it’s cold I wear a huddy under the flannel shirt in addition to another shirt under the flannel shirt. I also wear a crucifix and Miraculous Medal 24/7 over all my clothes. So what am I showing others about my “best assets”? I’m showing that I love God, have a good taste in fashion (lol), but more importantly that there is so much more to me than my body!

Why do brides traditionally wear veils? It is to veil and protect what is holy, her body. It is also to show that before you see her body, you see her personality, likes, desires, hobbies… these are the things that truly matter!

Jackie Francois on Ascension Presents posted this today, how relevant!

@ChristinaAH watch this video particularly, it is from Crystalina and Jason Evert, who if you don’t know them, they are amazing Chastity speakers! This video they are talking to high schools, as they usually do. She answeres your question so many times in this video and a lot of my posts in this thread are very similar to what they will say. They are funny and very good, you will enjoy them and you will learn a ton about protecting dignity, dressing modestly and such. I saw this video 2 years ago when my brother suggested it to me, changed my entire view of attraction, it’s an amazing talk!

In Victorian England, showing some ankle was “immodest.” In some countries today, showing a woman’s bare stomach is “immodest,” yet a Hindu woman wearing a sari bares her stomach and it’s NOT considered “immodest.” Before the 60s wearing a bikini was “immodest,” and yet no one thinks anything of it today.

In other words, “modesty” depends on the current culture you live in. And of course if you live in a small town in Nebraska, there’s probably a different standard than if you live in downtown LA.

Putting the burden of “modesty” on only woman (as in Muslim countries) is sexist. Modesty is in the mind, not the clothes. (See the story of Lady Godiva.)

You said we shouldn’t dress so others don’t lust, but I’m an earlier post you thanked the OP for wearing a long top with leggings so you aren’t tempted. . Isn’t that a contradiction?
