Modest leggings?

A rapist is not going to determine his victim because of her outfit. And a normal man is not going to turn into a rapist by seeing a girl in a short skirt.

If two girls are walking home, and one is dressed in jeans and a sweater and one in tight fitting leggings and a miniskirt, which is more likely to become the victim?
Part of my mentality comes from how I was raised but also by knowing several victims in my area. It also depends on location, but I am very protective since.

It very much depends on the type of leggings too. I was at a family gathering a few years ago and there are two girls who are always there who dress like Paris Hilton. On this particular day one of them had on chocolate brown leggings with a dress that was like a long sweatshirt. Well, it was VERY short, and when she bent over her ENTIRE behind popped out the back. I was standing behind her, and because of the type of fabric of the leggings (heavy lycra) they were pulled thinner over her back side and were nearly transparent. It was almost as if she was nude in the back. I yanked down her dress in the back and told her to watch herself. Oh – and there was nothing but a thong (if that) under the leggings – I could see everything. It was truly disgusting, and in no way appropriate. Sadly these girls (now in their 20’s) have always, and will always dress this way.

Ah yeah - that is entirely off topic and not related to the discussion of leggings. Someone needs to start another discussion if they want to discuss rape and clothing choices.

Maybe it’s the former volleyball player and gymnast in me coming out, but I don’t agree that tights are the same as just showing the skin. That’s like saying wearing a cami under a lowcut shirt is the same as just showing the skin? I certainly would feel more covered wearing a pair of spandex shorts over my leotard than just wearing it by itself. I realize it’s a whole different dynamic since those are required competition uniforms and the tightness of the fabric actually has a purpose within the sport. Still, I just can’t agree that no leggings and leggings are the same thing.

I don’t wear leggings as I don’t have the legs I just keep my skirts below my knee.

My biggest problem with leggings is not when they are under an appropriate skirt, but when they are under those “long shirts” or “shirt dresses”, Where they just barely cover their bottoms when standing (like lizaanne said). I am in law school and I swear there is a complete lack of fashion and modest sense among the early 20 something group. Just today in class I saw a girl wearing leggings without a skirt of long shirt over top. There are a few girls who do this, and usually ones who have the bodies least suited for it. (and I am not saying anyone can pull this off, only that it always seems to be the ones who can least pull it off who do it).

i agree with some posters: leggings can make a skirt modest, if worn under some special circumstances:

they should be made of a rather heavy, opaque fabric such as cotton; the skirt should not be extreme short, the hem at least reaching the knees, better covering the knees ! the skirt/leggings combo should be worn with flat shoes, such as sneakers !

cotton leggings with a knee-length skirt and sneakers can create a perfect modest look !

is it possible to make a short skirt modest by wearing leggings underneath?

can a pair of leggings really take away the sexyness of a miniskirt ?

many young girls here in germany act like this !

or do leggings catch men’s eye and make the short skirt even more sexy ?

I am a straight guy and I really don’t get turned on by miniskirts (in fact, when I see it in certain Animé pictures with stockings, it looks more cute than sexy, although they’ll just look plain weird if the legs are bare), but I will acknowledge that there are guys that do. Still, I have a solution, but it might not work and I have never had the courage to tell a girl to try it.

My solution comes from the difference between Porn and Art: the former is made to incite sexual desire while the latter is simply made to be aesthetically pleasing. In order to turn a miniskirt into “art”, I’d recommend to wear leggings underneath that go from at least the ankle to the top of the legs; said leggings are either the same color or are a complementary to said skirt.

Now PLEASE don’t wear a jeans-style miniskirt or a microskirt with this! Also, if you choose to do this, you will have to learn to bend with your knees instead of your hips to avoid exposing your butt or panties (if either could be visible) AND take extreme care to never spread your legs.

Please pray that this does not lead you or others to a life of sin (I will be praying that as well), and if others DO happen to get distracted by your legs, either don’t wear a miniskirt around them, in the same environment, or EVER again!
