3/4 above elbow sleeves and near knee length shorts is what I’m quite comfortable with… is that considered modest for day summer wear? What would you consider modest clothing, and immodest clothing?

Thanks.🙂

As long as the top does not expose the midriff or is too tight or revealing. Shorts, of course, should not be skin tight either.

Yeah, something I forgot to add is that the clothes are loose fitting enough and doesn’t show midriff or anything like that

both Target and Old Navy have some great polos, t-shirts and shorts that are modest

Sounds fine to me!

I love that T-shirts are once again long enough to cover the midriff, and that Bermuda shorts and capris are in style.👍

I don’t understand why people don’t just swim nude.

Seriously, what is our problem with nudity? It’s what God gave you, right? Why not be proud of it? Why is it something to be ashamed of?

I do wear tank tops in summer, but I make sure they aren’t cut low in a way that makes alot of cleavage. I don’t wear tight pants, but it’s hard sometimes with shirts, as anyone woman with above average bra size will tell you. This summer I’ve moved away from tanks, though, and headed for baby doll tees. They’re close fitting enough to not look sloppy and being small in stature like I am, they don’t show my naval.

My favorite summer wear, however, is long skirts. (Knee length skirts also) When it’s very hot out, skirts are much more comfortable then shorts. Not to mention I rarely wear shorts because I don’t like how short they are. The few pairs I have actually have legs, which are hard to find now a days.

When I worked in a plastics factory several years ago, my fellow co-workers were amazed that I would work during the heat of summer (100 degress upstairs, 120 on the production floor in the plant) in jeans and conservative tank tops. I used to get alot of comments about it, and at one point it did get to me. But then I thought about it, and to me it’s more important for me to feel I’m doing right then to get other people’s “permission.”

Exalt,
You are speaking from your own understanding and not from what the Church teaches.

You might want to read the following link:

What is the Catholic Church position regarding those who practice nudism?

I used to be a nudist before i came back to the Church. I used to think what do i have to hide? I think this thinking is wrong now. It’s hard not to find social nudism sexually frustrating. Modesty has it’s place and we need to be aware of that.

Love in Christ,
Joseph

Until “western” society gets its knickers untwisted about women *tastefully * showing some cleavage, or choosing to wear clothing that accentuates their curves… the only solution is a potato sack, no make-up, and bad hair.

Where I live both sexes are encased in R30+ insulating material for 75% of the year. Come those 90 days of oppressive heat, and it’s kinda nice to see woman that doesn’t look like the “Michelin Man”.

Capri’s, mid-thigh shorts, tanks, “slightly” tight tops, what’s the problem? Modest… it’s not hanging out… or you don’t have to alter your behavior to prevent something from hanging out.

Remember a few years ago… Coca-Cola aired a commercial. “Diet Coke Break”? A bunch of office gals would rearrange their day and clamor at the windows to see the buffed out construction guy pull off his shirt and take a swig of his soda?
Flip the role. What if it was a bunch of guys clamoring to see a gal pulling off her cover-all’s to reveal a bikini top underneath?
How long would that have lasted on the air?

Immodest… 3-sizes too small halters, shorts that are short enough that a “cheek peeks” with every step, or any clothes where a violent sneeze could cause a “wardrobe malfunction”…

I think thats modest enough.I think as long as it covers your upper legs and stomach and doesnt show off your body, its modest enough.

I hate to say this, but when I hear questions like this, I want to say that Catholics are not near as prudish as Pentecostals.

My priest has requested no bare shoulders or bare backs at mass. I think that more than allows 3/4 length sleeves and knee-length shorts acceptable for daily summer wear. Not mass, but almost everything else.

I wear sleevless tops around home (not to church). The humidity is very high and so is the temperature and I want to be comfortable. I’m getting to the age where it’s hard to find nice shorts, so I wear capris.

I meant 3/4 above elbow, not 3/4 sleeve. 3/4 is much longer.

I complained to my pastor that the way some of the young people dress for Mass was very distracting for me. He said he is happy to see them in the pews and didn’t want to talk about dress codes to them because it might cause them to stop coming. Last week a young woman was wearing a top with spaghetti string straps and it was really tight about her breasts. But according to Father, i guess i have to just be distracted by it; because he isn’t going to say anything about it. You are fortunate you have a responsible pastor.

By the way, I’m homosexual, so these young ladies do not cause me to have immoral thoughts. It just seems to me to be disrespectful and could cause immoral thoughts to the heterosexual guys. Guys in tight shorts and flip-flops bother me in a different way. I am trying to stay chaste in thoughts and actions.

I wear long-sleeved flannel shirts, very baggy jeans and shoes with sox. I also wear a light jacket. I find the air conditioning too cold anyway. I’m surprised some of these people don’t find it cold in Church with what they aren’t wearing. 😊

By and large I find myself far more offended at the excess flesh sprouting out of too-tight/too small clothing than finding such views to be stimulating or enticing. If I NEVER see another exposed muffin top, bra stra buldge, love handle, tummy roll or panty line carved into cellulite it will be too soon!!!:bigyikes:

It amazes me that people never address male immodest dress.
👍 I agree partly. People do address male immodest dressing, just not as much (I haven’t heard much about it). I think they should, because it’s just as important.🙂

I’ve seen that some voted that the clothes mentioned were TOO IMMODEST. Can you please explain this, I wondering why?

Thanks:thumbsup:😃

Modesty depends on the situation. Maybe they were thinking of a specific situation where they would be immodest like Sunday Mass or a nice restaurant. Or maybe they’re from a different part of the world. For example, there are places in the world where men don’t wear shorts.

But for your average American I don’t see anything wrong with what you mentioned as casual Summertime clothes.
