In my purely secular opinion I think that almost any shirts that don’t show the tummy or cleavage and aren’t tight enough to show bra straps and such are modest and pretty much and pants/capris/shorts that aren’t skin tight and long enough to cover the rear completely when sitting or bending over are modest. Of course those rules can be bent slightly depending on body type…no one wants to see a super obese person wearing mid thigh length shorts and a tank top. I’m not saying people who are in really good shape can skimp on the clothes…I don’t think anyone whose mind isn’t in the gutter wants to see that either but when people don’t dress for their body type things can get…scary

Outside of the arena of church functions, two years ago we went to Nassau, Bahamas for a week. My wife (why?) forgot to bring a swimsuit. Simple-go shopping, right? We did, and it was either bikinis that left little to the imagination (wife will not wear a bikini, and she’s got a nice figure!

Physical beauty is a two edged sword. And I believe for a catholic it is a cross to bear. Thank God I dont have it.
For no matter what you wear, physical beauty can’t be hidden. In saying that, if one wears clothes that will swing heads… Every head that swings you are in a direct way responsible. So when he is judged for lust, you will also be judged for giving him a reason to lust.
That is not saying one should wear potatoe sacks, but if you dress modestly, you have not dressed to infulence others. If they still “head turn”, it will be in appreciation of your beauty, which is not a sin.

Iccy, I love what you said about true beauty!
I’ve had trouble explaining it to some people. I’m told I’m rather pretty and some people think because of that I should dress “in fashion” more often. I don’t dress like an old maid, but I do prefer to keep above the knees covered and try not to wear tops that make it look like my boobs are going to fall out any moment. One of my favorite things to wear is long skirts, especially the tiered kind, and I feel more pretty dressed like that then I ever did when I tried the shorter stuff. But going back to the point, I want my personality to shine, and my true beauty. When a man shows interest in me, I want it to be because he finds me interesting or such, not because I’m driving him into a state of lust.

A thin woman can rarely find decent clothing. i live in the Western US, which means what we consider conservative clothing would be thought of as stripper clothes in the central and eastern parts of America. But when I go to buy a dress in a small size, they all have necklines around the navel, or hems where the waist belongs, or slits on both sides so wide they not only don’t close, they show almost as much as they hise, or words such as “Sexy” across them in sequins, or obscene cutouts. I tried complaining to some mostly largish women about this and they didn’t get my point. I guess only a woman who is stared at all the time knows how disgusting and humiliating it is and what it’s like not to be allowed any clothes except during winter.
