Since this is the Traditional Forum, and I’am a Traditional Catholic, I’ll add that I’m rather certain that most of the people I attend mass with, would find the suggestion that in certain cultures, near nudity should be considered acceptable for Catholics, thoroughly ridiculous. And the idea that the men of those cultures just don’t view scantily clad women as occasional objects of lust, boggles the mind. It reminds me of the words of a black evangelical minister I stumbled onto on the radio one time, many years ago, he said something like “If you’re a young lady, you just don’t wanna be showing too much skin to a man, not anywhere, not anytime, not any age of man”

As a celibate man, I really didn’t need to see pictures of bare breasts. The words “topless native women” was enough for me to understand all that I needed to understand. There was really no need to make it graphic. People don’t need to see the picture to get the point.

It’s culturally acceptable for women to wear bikini’s in western world, but it would be inappropriate to post pictures of it here on CAF. There is no need to post an image. Saying “Woman in a bikini” is enough. We all know what that means.

If I said “Person who got run over by a bus”, everyone would understand what that means. There is no need for me to describe the blood. There is no need for me to paint a mental image. There is certainly no need for me to post an actual picture. There is no point in doing so. Everyone understands without making it graphic.

I really wish I hadn’t clicked into this thread.

Just stumbled onto this thread and it seems to me that the poster found a reason to post topless photos and is probably LOLing that they stay up. I reported it.

It’s probably even more humorous to him that the photos are in the Traditional Catholics forum.

Athena, if these pictures are automatically showing up on the thread for other people than I can understand the opposition. They are only showing up as links for me, and I don’t really see a problem with that, but if people who wish to avoid such pictures because they are a near occasion of sin are being shown them against their wishes it really does seem innapropriate.

I just don’t understand how they are showing up as pictures for others but as links for me. Anybody any ideas?

Yeah, you must have your browser set not to show links as photos.

I was beginning to feel that I and one poster were the lone voices in this. As I’ve said before, I’m not even debating the cultural context. I just cannot believe that it was necessary to post young girls with bare breasts for us to understand that some “native” women go topless.

I reported this yesterday and have not gotten a response.

Tim is right about women in bikinis. Walking_Home, you and I both know we walk on opposite sides when it comes to modesty. However, if in a modesty thread I want to discuss some immodest clothing I’ve seen, prudence will tell me that if I link to a woman showing extreme cleavage, even to make a point, this might be a stumbling block for someone.

So out of sensitivity to others, I wouldn’t do it.
