Modesty catching on in mainstream

I agree that this is a nice trend, but it’s still a trend that I’m afraid has nothing to do with modesty and everything to do with a retro, '50s fascination that’s been “in” for about 2 years now (Reuters is a little late to the scene).

I love the look…but I wouldn’t be too optimistic about its staying power. This is fashion, after all.

Good! Thanks for the info. Immodest dress is such a sad thing. Just says that one doesn’t see inner value and must attract attention any way they can.

Nothing like a modestly dressed on fire Catholic girl! 👍

That makes me so happy! It will be a happy day when you can walk through the mall or anywhere for that matter and not see grils wearing practically nothing… it makes me sad that girls and women feel that they have to show their bodies to get attention. It would be nice to see a change.

I am very glad that the trends are at least not as “revealing” as they have been before. Sadly, though not everyone is going for the modest look. These people need to understand by wearing those clothes they are going to be looked at for sex and not for themselves. Sex doesn’t last forever, but the true you does.
Modesty is GOOD!

I agree, clothing fads for girls and young women have sunk as low as they can go – current fashions already look like they belong in a strip joint or on a streetwalker; they can’t get much worse – the next step would be to walk around naked. I hope the trend towards more modest clothing lasts, and that girls will discover they can be attractive (in a nice way) without showing off all their body parts.

I lived through a previous incarnation of very low slung pants and very short skirts, and those clothes were a pain in the neck. Besides the modesty issues, those pants were extremely uncomfortable, and we were constantly tugging at them to keep them up. With the short skirts, you couldn’t even bend over to take a drink from the water fountain without worrying what you were showing.

What makes it worse today is that the media have girls convinced that it’s a good thing to show what shouldn’t be seen in public. It is totally vile.

good to hear. If only every Christian girl would look to our Blessed Mother as the standard for purity, this problem would not be what it is today. We Christians have a lot more influence than we think. If we start standing up for God-centered values, the world will change!

I actually was inspired to dress modestly recently, I wondering if the Blessed Mother had any (name removed by moderator)ut in it- (smile) I have always dressed modestly- I’m frankly not comfortable wearing the clothes that a lot of women wear- but I have had this desire to dress even more modest- my shirts are now button down, 3/4 length and cover my stomach- and  can you beleive- it looks very good to boot! Now who says modesty has to be boring?

I feel very empowered and comfortable and feminine.

CHALLENGE!! I encourage and challenge other female’s my age to dress modestly.

God bless you, Jade! My girlfriend has been inspired by our Blessed Mother to dress even more modestly than she was before-- and she looks even prettier! That’s what girls don’t realize: it’s so ugly when you all dress immodestly. But it’s so beautiful when you’re dressed according to God’s standards!

I know how hard it is for you all. My girlfriend says she feels like the only one trying to be modest, and feels she sticks out because of it. I can tell it discourages her. I wish all you wonderful Christian girls who care about dressing modestly would find some way to communicate and support each other, I think that would help a lot.

Anyway, keep up the good work, and God will bless you for it. When you get made fun of for not showing what the world wants you to, just chalk it up as a treasure in heaven. And know that there’s at least one girl (my girlfriend) going through the same thing. It’s worth it for Christ!

God bless you.

Hello UK Catholic Guy!

Please give your girlfriend a high five for me and a big thumbs up! 👍

Good point. The Blessed Virgin Mary is a great roll model for women. Thanks for bringing this up!

This is true. The fashion conscious females in my household have noted that much longer shorts are more readily available than short shorts. Knee length skirts are now ‘in’ apposed to just a pair of blue jeans.
