Not sure where to put this, go ahead and move it if necessary.

So I’ve heard it said that to be modest, you need to cover things that could reasonably cause someone else to sin, like cleavage, butt, etc.

I was in a discussion with someone once, and when I asked if I needed to cover my feet for all the people who were into that, they said no, because it is not a common “turn-on”

My question here is if very pregnant women is considered a common or uncommon “turn on”. I have heard men say that they love looking at pregnant women, but I can’t tell if they mean in a sexual way. Is a tight dress or short shorts more acceptable when one is nearing her due date?

Do you mean a tight dress because the dress gets tighter as her body swells and grows rounder? Or a dress purposefully chosen to be really close-fitting to show off her shape?
There are cute and modest pregnancy fashions, but there are some dresses that are too short or too tight on purpose, to show off the body.
My personal opinion is, if it is considered immodest outside of pregnancy, it is immodest during pregnancy, too. However, I would also say that a pregnant woman’s body is beautiful and alluring to many people, and she should feel no obligation to adopt more modest attire than what she is accustomed to, but should have the ability to celebrate and enjoy her changing body.
I am always pretty modest (at least compared to some of what I see en vogue) so during pregnancy I stick with the same kind of things, but I do really enjoy when my belly begins to round out the maternity dresses and I make no attempt to disguise anything.
I hope that helps, FrenzyJen. I know modesty is important for Christians, but I just think sometimes we obsess about it a little too much. I think you should be able to enjoy fashions and pretty clothing!

I’m sure that there is no part of the female body that someone does not find alluring. (Even a foot fetishist would not find mine attractive, though.).

A burqa would be the only way to deflect all attention, and even doesn’t seem to work. In societies where it is commonly worn, sexual harassment of women is often extremely high.

Dress with your normal degree of modesty and let the responsibility with their reaction to your condition be assumed by those who experience it.

In the privacy of your home, you get a pass. Just keep a bathrobe handy if there is a knock at the door.

I think you are confusing “love looking at pregnant women” … I would think there would be a difference in “love looking at pregnant women” vs “love looking at women’s butts and cleavage”

If you are pregnant, dress as nicely and modestly as you would when you aren’t pregnant.

Let a man weigh in here- from a man’s perspective.
Modesty in dress, speech, thought and action protects the inner mystery of the woman (or man).

Simply ask yourself, “Am I revealing my inner mystery to people who should not see it?”

I have always received great joy from pregnant women. They have a new life within them. An accomplishment that no man will ever be graced with. We men simply stand by in awe.

Extreme example: I was in a dollar store and saw a pregnant woman early twenties wearing short, shorts, a bra top and a pair of sandals. She looked like she was ready to pop at any minute she was that big. What a let down. She had revealed her inner mystery and cheapened it to a carnival sideshow. I was disappointed, shocked and felt sorry for her.

I would hope not. One simple rule - if you wouldn’t wear it when not pregnant, being pregnant probably won’t make it acceptable.

If that’s still vague, if you wouldn’t wear it to Mass, in the presence of Jesus (since some people forget this is what Mass is), or to visit a beloved but very conservative/modest relative, then you probably shouldn’t wear it out of the house.

Haahaa, I ask because during pregnancy I felt like a house, and about as sexy as a house. I couldn’t see arousing anyone when I had to waddle to get anywhere.

I’m probably not revealing any secrets here: a man can find *anything * about a woman sexually attractive. 🤷

If you wore a burka, or a hajib (I get them confused) some guy would probably be attracted to your eyes.

FrenzyJen:
I see modestly dressed women as more attractive than miss leaving nothing to the imagination.

I see pregnant women as precious jewels who reveal something of the hidden glory of God because they are holding within them a new life. The beauty of a pregnant woman is beyond the physical and eminates from within the woman. As a man I am in awe of this mystery, a mystery which I can never experience but only observe.

I resent it when I hear a man refer to a woman as a “fat cow” or other women say something like, “Well you know, she’s preggers.” in a hushed sort of voice. I choose the freedom of the gospel and not the spirit of this age.

There are several meanings to modest (adverb):1) not vain or boastful,
2) not forward,
3) decent,
4) not extreme,
5) quite* and *humble in appearance or style.
Number 1 is anti-vainglory. There is much in modesty about countering pride, not only to avoid giving scandal.

I would imagine it is a neglegable amount of people who would have that fetish. The spouse however might find his wife’s state attractive, but that is because she is his wife. I just try to think: does this outfit honor my husband and allow us privacy?

^^^This is what I was trying to ask, however poorly I articulated it. Thank you. I was trying to determine if it was a “reasonable” thing

Agreed and agreed !

There is indeed a weird fetish that some men seem to have with pregnant woman however, that is uncommon so I think the general rule would be whatever you wouldn’t wear not pregnant you shouldn’t wear it during pregnancy. There areany weird fetishes and it would be overly burdensome for everyone to have to take into account every single odd getish out there and we should probably go for what is culturally accepted for the majority.
